Mitsubishi Motors Phils. plans to launch 4 models in 2009

    By BERNIE CAHILES-MAGKILAT

Despite the uncertainties in the local automotive market, the country’s second biggest car assembler Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. will continue to perk up the market with the launch of four net models next year.

Froilan Dytianquin, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. assistant vice-president for marketing services, revealed this to reporters even as he said that the company is setting a flat growth target in 2009 of only 18,500 units from this year’s expected 18,000 unit sales.

"The company has difficulty coming up with a sales forecast whether it is a growth or a decline because of the uncertainties in the local market as a result of the automotive crisis in the US," Dytianquin said.

Reeling from the impact of the financial crisis, the American automotive industry is asking for billion bailout from the US government but Congress is hesitant to approve a bailout unless industry workers agree to a huge pay cut.

"But we will be launching four new models next year," he said.

The new launches include a new passenger car model, sports utility vehicle and upgrades of existing models.
"We will have four launches next year including a car, an SUV model including model upgrades. There will be two launches in the first quarter," he said.

Its most popular models now are Adventure, L300, Strada and Montero.

"Adventure sells for OFWs," Dytianquin noted.

MMPC is also staging a comeback this year as the country’s second biggest automotive player displacing Honda Cars Philippines.

"We captured this second place after two years of being in the third place," Dytianquin said.

As of November this year, MMPC sold a total of 15,984 units from 13,366 units in the same January-November period last year and grabbing 14 percent market share from 12.4 percent last year.

Overall, Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. remained the most popular with sales reaching 41,997 units for a modest 5.4 percent increase over 39,843 units in the same period last year.

On the third slot was Honda Cars Philippines Inc. with 13,557 units sold posting a sharp 16 percent decline from 16,138 units sold in the same period last year.

Korean car company Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. is the only non-Japanese carmaker that made it to the top five.

Hyundai maintained its position with sales of 9,502 units or 27.9 percent more than the 7,432 units sold in the same period last year.

All commercial vehicle assembler Isuzu Philippines Corp. completed the top five players with sales of 9,129 units or 4.6 percent increase from 8,728 units in the same period last year.

any of you guys have an inside info on these new models?

Ah yung Colt Plus?Maybe pero most likely they'll skip this one and just wait for the new gen Colt na sourced from Thailand na ilalabas sa 2010 or 2011.Maybe we'll see more variants ng Lancer EX(1.8 GLX and GLS,Ralliart at Sportback?),pagbabalik ng Galant(same unit nung nasa 2nd PIMS),2.5 CRDI 4X4 at 4X2 variants ng Montero Sport at finally yung updated version ng Fuzion na locally assembled with 2.4 MIVEC and 2.5 CRDI variants...Wow ang dami naman nyan...

Pero wish ko lang di matuloy yung price increase nila which will affect the brand locally...

    price increase? oo... huwag sana...

    hmmmm, yung
Lancer EX 1.8 - wishful thinking...
Lancer EX Sportback - if we get to have it here asap, like the 1.8 we will be the FIRST in the ASEAN region!
Colt - hmmm... i heard of their plans... very likely... i hope it wont be a super shrinked size like the alto though.
Galant - hmmm... im waiting for the next generation instead.
Fuzion - much debated on, much argued, much explained, much anticipated, a must see on the light of day on this planet!!! (totoo bang out of stock ang taiwanese fuzion now???)
Montero Sport 4x2 - ah... Very likely... its almost common knowledge na.
    =================
    also:
Strada - facelifted version may come...
Pajero - sana dumating dito yung 200hp 3.2 D-ID engine...

IMO: the Lancer 1.6 GLS/GLX will still remain in production. if anyone knows anything about stoping this model, let me know.

What could these be, mga sirs? What the print say is not very specific.

Can anybody with some insider knowledge share what specifically these new models from Mitsubishi would be? I am planning to get the Mitsubishi Adventure now and maybe after a few weeks or months comes out the CRDI Adventure. Ouch!

I don't think magkakaron pa ng CRDi na adventure, malamang yung Fuzion pa dahil sa ngayon gas variant pa lang meron. Pero ang sigurado yung 4X2 na Montero Sport. IMO wag ka magmadali

Thanks sir. Di ko kaya ang price ng Montero. Yung CRDI Fusion baka not less 1m. Pinapadali na ako ng SA ko at baka mawala na daw ang discount ng Advie.

well very tempting talaga discounts for adventure kaya lang medyo may kalumaan na body design at more than 10 years. sensya na ha hehe but i don't think Fuzion CRDi (if coming) will be lesser than 1M because normally mas mahal ang diesel variants (at CRDi pa) kay sa gas but sana mali ako.

Sa ngayon 950K at 1,150K ang GLX and GLS Sport diesel variants.

You're right bro. Reliability and affordability ang priority ko. Dito na lang ako o tayo sa Advie. I will use this for sightseeing and long distance travel with wifey and the kids.
