i just noticed halos walang nagco-comment dito about the mitsubishi montero sport. in fact i rarely see any of em on the road. i just visited a dealer and it seems like an SUV worth considering. di ba siya ok? your thoughts please...

Looks-wise, pwede-pwede na. Pero kasi for that money, most people would rather get a brand new Fortuner, or some other CUV.

Personally I prefer the Montero's design, old as it is, over the current Pajero. Neat and streamlined, hindi siya ganun ka-flashy tignan, unlike the Pajero screaming attention to itself with all those bulges.

Yun nga lang, the Montero is built on a truck chassis, and rides like one. Not that it's a problem with me (since I drive a truck-based vehicle myself), pero others may have issues with this. Also, the Montero's 4WD system may not be as versatile as the Pajero's. And if you're looking for third-row seating, you may want to consider something else.

There is a Montero Sport thread. Check it out. I prefer it over the Fortuner for its simplicity, ruggedness, and leaner looks (as opposed to the somewhat bloated-looking Fortuner).

bloated nga ang fortuner, malaki tingnan sa labas... pag sakay mo sa loob medyo masikip... third row as always for kids lang... yung driver seat eh medyo mababa parang sobrang taas tuloy tingnan yung dash...

Bloated, perhaps. Pero we can't deny that it is indeed a looker. The main reason why it is selling like hotcakes is because of the way it looks, hehe.

The Trooper has been bumped off by the Alterra... but while it was here, it did receive refreshes every now and then.

Mitsubishi introduced the Montero as a new model, but with looks dating back at least ten years... just like the Chevrolet Lumina (LUMA-NA?!? - that still cracks me up!), it doesn't convince many people.

And those looks don't lie... it is a very old vehicle. Okay if you're into classic Japanese SUVs (trucklike ride, handling... well, everything), but there are many more modern and refined vehicles for the money.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Not sure about the price, but yes, it has the 4M40 turbodiesel engine.

It's like buying a brand new classic vehicle. I wish they still sold brand new Patrol GQ's (Y60).

Oh yeah, they still do. But only in China...

Old does not necessarily equate to bad.

Design-wise at least, a perfect example of this statement is another Mitsubishi vehicle, the Galant.

I just absolutely hate the 240M's "lolo car" aura. :suka:

I own a Fortuner... But, I think the Montero looks great. Lalo pag all black tapos naka-chrome mags... Ang pogi ng dating! Yung nga lang, for the price, dapat newer technology engine na s'ya and may 3rd row or at least jump seats man lang s'ya...

In terms of design like exterior styling and interior ergonomics, its dated. In terms of capability and reliability, its proven - its been in production for so many years. It has had alot of experience off road and on road that it is almost problem free - no bugs or glitches because they've probably surfaced(and have been fixed) so many years back during its first few years. Para sa akin eto ang maganda sa models tulad ng montero, although magatal na sya in production, age has refined its reliability. Unlike new models, with so many features that some may have a recall because of a glitch in the car's computer or some malfunction on a "technologically new mechanical part" or something that requires replacement
