Following Mitsubishi Motors' announcement of a global recall of more than 340,000 passenger cars on Wednesday, Mitsubishi's local authorised agent said it would recall the Pajero iO sports utility vehicles.
.
Last week, Mitsubishi was hit by revelations of cover-ups in the past 11 years of safety-related vehicle defects, in which legally-required recalls were not issued.
.
Locally, only 42 Pajero iO units — manufactured between 1998 and 2000 — will be recalled to replace rear signal indicator lens coating that "may peel and become colourless", said a spokesman of Jardine Cycle & Carriage.
.
JC&C will announce the recall when it receives the required spare parts and more information from Japan.
.
According to the Land Transport Authority, about 7,000 vehicles were recalled by Mitsubishi last year for defects in the front-brake hose installation, the gear box and the electric power-steering system. — Kevin Tan
