Can you suggest alternatives to the OEM Mitsubishi ATP SP III?

Hi. Can you suggest an alternative Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) brand other than the OEM Mitsubishi ATF that is the same spec (Mitsubishi ATF SP III) and is locally available in the Philippine market? The current ATFs being sold locally the last time I checked (i.e Petron, Caltex, Shell, Castrol, etc...) only meet the Dexron III spec and not the Mitsubishi ATF SP III spec.

I am in the same dillema din. Nung nag tanong ako sa ATCO Pasay, sabi sa akin ng saleslady na parehas lang daw ang Dexron 3 sa SP3. Ang pinagkaiba lang daw, synthetic daw ang SP3 while mineral lang ang Dexron 3. I also posted a thread about this dun sa Transmission Thread, no feedbacks though.

I still have 1500 kms pa naman before changing it.

Eneos ECO ATF, pero wala pa ako nakikitang ganito sa mga hardwares.

I recall Dexron III is different from the Mitsubishi DiaQueen ATF SP-III required by our Mitsubishi A/Ts. I'm kinda hoping a cheaper alternative brand with the same spec is available locally.

Damn, I dont know who to believe haha.
I tried searching sa net last saturday and compared Shell Spirax S3 ATF MD3 with Eneos ECO ATF. Medyo may difference sa viscosity and flash point. I believe yung SP is a low viscous oil.

May nakita din ako before na Total Extra Long Drain ATF. Ewan ko lang din kung available locally sir. Hindi pa ako nakaka visit sa Total Gas stations e.

BTW, I am using Dexron 2 ATF in our Hyundai which also requires SP3. No issues naman after 20K kms.
Papalitan na ng ATF Dexron 3 this Saturday.

I've checked the Total Asia Pacific website but the Total Extra Long Drain ATF (meets Mitsubishi SP3) is not in its list. Eneos Eco- ATF is also not in the official product list as shown in their Philippine website. Both oil companies only offer Dexron III spec ATF. I guess if there are no alternatives then I'll just stick with OEM.

Castrol Transmax ATF is Diamond SP III rated sir. P328 dito sa amin, kahapo ako nag-inquire eh. Iba nga lang bottle niyan vs sa site na yan sa baba, golden siya.

Pero Caltex Texamatic 1888 puwede na din IMO. Some casa uses Mobil 220 ATF pa nga.

By the way sirs, I already replaced our montys ATF with ENEOS DIII "Marcon" ATF (Marcon HAHA!).
Red sticker yung nasa harap ng bottle so easy to spot sa mga automotive stores.
However, hindi ko makita sa internet yung information regarding this, baka nagkaroon na ng repackaging or something.

Nung pinalitan na namin yung ATF (drain lang sa pan, 3.5 Liters), medyo redish brown na kulay niya. Parang ok pa naman.
Nung pag-pour nung bagong ATF, distinguished na agad yung color. Red na Red compared dun sa na-drain.

For performance, gumanda shifting and I can vouch to it.
Before kasi, naeexperince ko yung rough downshifting, though medyo nawala siya before pa. Basta nag post ako nun sa thread na "Problems with the Montero Sport".
Ngayon, ang ganda ng shifting and nabawasan yung drag feeling. Every 20k nalang ako mag-drain ng ATF, 240 lang naman per liter price niya sa Wilcon Builders Depot.

Hindi na ako nag Castrol Transmax kasi ang layo ng SM e haha. Pwede naman lakarin pero nakakatamad.
Price at ACE sa MOA is 340 per liter.

I have a Mitsubishi Galant 99 VR. Been using the DEXRON III eversince I bought it in 2007. That was 7 years ago. Ngayon lang ako naubusan ng ATF! Muntikan ko pa malimutan. Now I have the same dilemma but instead if DIAMOND ATP SP III, my manual states I use the DIA QUEEN ATF SP II. But I have never seen such a lubricant available in our Local Automotive SHops (pwera lang sa CASA which I know has double the PRICE!). But every seller told me its ok to use the DEXRON II or III. I am a little skeptical about it at first (mabuti pa nga yung saleslady mo dude at nasabi yung difference). Minsan nalilito pa nga ako sa specs ng DEXRON II or III because its the same lubricant we use I use on my POWER STEERING FLUID (ATF DEXRON or DEXRON II). SAbi nung nabilhan ko ng ATF fluid, same lang din daw ang fluid nung sa POWER STEERING at ATF. Is this true?

Anyway in my 7 years of using DEXRON III (Havoline ata yung tatak) di pa naman ako nakakaranas ng anything sa Tranny ko. There is something creaking on the hood but it maybe beacuse of ball joint lubrication lang or more of sa suspension or cv joints rather than the AT itself. Anyway basta sa akin considering 2nd hand lang itong tsikot ko, oks n rin yung DEXRON III, tama nga siguro si SALESLADY mo when she says about the other being SYNTHETIC and the other is MINERAL. ANg pagkakaiba lang pati nung yung span ng pag change mo ng ATF fluid. Sa SYNTHETIC kasi mas matagal (1 year sa Oil change di ba?). ANyway just saying...pero kung my makikita ako DIA QUEEN ATF SP II I'll buy it definitely but right now kung ano na lang ang available sa market na ATF yun na lang muna use ko. SO far oks naman sa MITSU GAL ko.

I had my vehicle's transmission fluid changed using Valvoline ATF+4 Synthetic. Conventional transmission fluid was used for all previous changes. Will this cause a problem?

No. Switching to synthetic transmission fluid after using a conventional product will not cause a problem. Synthetic and conventional oils are 100 percent compatible.

What is the difference between Dexron III/Mercon and type F transmission fluid?

The Valvoline Type F transmission fluid is a high quality NON-friction modified fluid. Dexron III/Mercon includes friction modifiers in the fluid additive package.


Is it OK to mix synthetic ATF with a conventional and/or synthetic blend ATF?

Yes. Synthetic ATF and conventional fluids are 100 percent compatible with each other.


I heard a rumor that using Dexron III will cause the clutch packs to swell and disintegrate? Is there any truth to this?

No. Dexron III ATF will not cause any damages to clutch packs.


Is MaxLife automatic transmission fluid an SP-111 fluid?

MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF is 100 percent compatible for use in SP-II and SP-III applications.
