4x4 is good to have if you know how it works and how best to use it. I guess that's the answer.
Seen to many 4x4 drivers do stupid stuff thinking the 4wd system is there to correct for their mistakes.

4x2 if you intend for city driving. More than enough for flooded street wading and running 160 kph.

Wrong! I drive a GLS SE Montero Sport 6 days a week. My route is Commonwealth Avenue-Quezon Avenue-Espanya vice versa. And we all know how hellish traffic is in Espanya and sometimes in Quezon Avenue. My FC pre-K&N was 7.5 km/l. After putting K&N my FC is 8.6 km/l. That is conservative driving. All I can say is the Montero Sport's 3.2 4M41 engine is one of the most fuel efficient 3 liter diesel engines in the market today.

For me, I'm still getting the GLS 2.5. It's going to be my wife who will primarily use the car din naman. Plus since the GLS si cheaper, that gives me more money to buy my own daily driver, the Genesis Coupe 3.8 V6.![]()
Pero still even if nasa 4X2 mode ka, fact remains the 4X4 system is there. It has a lot of weight, and we all know weight affects fuel consumption... So kung di mo kailangan nagdadala ka lang ng extra bagahe na pampabigat...
Sa bagay, tidus. May point ka.
Alam ko na.. bragging rights nalang yung GLS SEhahaha
Kung may pambili nung GLS SE 4X4 A/T, yun nalang.

SG's right. If you have the budget for the GLS SE 4x4 A/T, then go for it. 4x4 really comes in handy in some situations. You'll never know when you'll be in a situation when you will really need the 4x4.
I have the same dilemma like the TS. At first, a friend of mine advised going for the 4x4, using the same reasoning as SG. I was sold on the idea, knowing that I'd love the stronger engine, the more luxurious interiors, and the 4x4 option. However, I live in a Makati condo and don't even go off roading. So another friend of mine (who also lives in Makati and drives a 4x4 Pajero) advised me to go for the 4x2. He said a 4x4 is heavy and unnecessary for city roads. He advised me to use the savings for mods instead. I argued that the 4x2 has a weaker engine, which he countered by saying that speed is not something you look for in a truck. SO now, I am sold with a 4x2 and will get one towards yearend (figured I can still wait a few months and get the 2011 model already).
For my speed fix, I'm also planning to get me a Hyundai GC 3.8 V6 as my daddy car.![]()
the problem is, the casa here in zamboanga doesn't have a montero sport test drive car. i want the 4x2 'coz it's cheaper and we are in the city but there are times that we wouldn't know if we need to go far by land and the road going to ipil and far places here in mindanao are usually bumpy.. i ahev the budget for the 4x4 also but i want to be practical that i won't have to regret in the end.![]()
