Hi Guys! Just got back from the states and as expected I checked out whats happening in the automotive scene internationally. One of the biggest news I've learned was about one of my pet Japanese brand Mitsubishi w/c is the 6th largest automaker in Japan and the 17th largest in the world by global unit sales.

I found out that same time versus last year of 2007, only one of their vehicle had better sales (qty). And guess what, it's not their new Lancer (that was said to be a big part in Mitsus revival plan)... it's the weird looking Galant! The next issue that really rocked them (and me) is the fact that their plant in Adelaide Australia was closed last April with the loss of around 1000 jobs and another more or less 2000 jobs in associated industries could also be lost.

I also remembered 2005 I think when Mitsu also cut down around 1200 jobs in Normal, Illinois plant back in the states because of falling sales and rising debt. It was said to be a part of a worldwide strategy that the Japanese automaker hopes will erase $6 billion in debt.

Well, what can I say at least it's doing a bit better here... but then again what is our micro Phil. market vs. the likes of U.S, Australia... Hyundai and Kia even sells better worldwide nowadays than Mitsu. :blue: Haaay.

Felt bad naman... here in li'l pinas Mitsu nga nman is still doing good but on bigger markets wala na. I love our L300 pa naman. My kuya told me there were even rumors of a buy out by other auto company.. and he said it was said to be one of the Japanese Big 3- Nissan. That will be great! Maybe this time the GTRs smaller brother Evo will really be it's real brother then! Imagine the might of the GTR will combine to the rallye bred Evo.

I also heard this thing about the shut down of mitsu plant in aussie. 6 billion debt is a lot huh! But I know mitsu is "reforecasting" their target sales this year to be more realistic. Felt bad for the new lancer though not beating it's sales last year, I like the car. But we're halfway pa naman this June eh, maybe it'll pick in the 2nd half.

I think the no. 4 and 5 in Japanese car makers is Mazda then Suzuki, no. 6 na si mitsu. Well, at least ok pa nman siya in our country.

NOOOOOOO... hope they can still keep up. I know nga that mitsu internationally is not doing well, but I did not know their debt is that big! And that was on 2005! I wonder how big it is now. Yung Outlander nga namin di pa naaayos window tint problem eh, they better do and be extra courteous on us customers kung hindi... naku. They must put in mind that yung underrated Kia here already beat them in worldwide numbers.

Sayang i've been fond of mitsubishi since we bought our L300 in the 90s. If ever rumors of a buy out is true ok din pag Nissan (GTR genes to the Evo? fantastic!). At least my other favs, no. 2 and 3 Japanese brands Nissan and Honda is still doing great globally.

Mitsubishi... Is Still Ailing
