Hi Guys! Just got back from the states and as expected I checked out whats happening in the automotive scene internationally. One of the biggest news I've learned was about one of my pet Japanese brand Mitsubishi w/c is the 6th largest automaker in Japan and the 17th largest in the world by global unit sales.
I found out that same time versus last year of 2007, only one of their vehicle had better sales (qty). And guess what, it's not their new Lancer (that was said to be a big part in Mitsus revival plan)... it's the weird looking Galant! The next issue that really rocked them (and me) is the fact that their plant in Adelaide Australia was closed last April with the loss of around 1000 jobs and another more or less 2000 jobs in associated industries could also be lost.
I also remembered 2005 I think when Mitsu also cut down around 1200 jobs in Normal, Illinois plant back in the states because of falling sales and rising debt. It was said to be a part of a worldwide strategy that the Japanese automaker hopes will erase $6 billion in debt.
Well, what can I say at least it's doing a bit better here...but then again what is our micro Phil. market vs. the likes of U.S, Australia... Hyundai and Kia even sells better worldwide nowadays than Mitsu. :blue: Haaay.
