    Hi diesel guru's,

I need some info with the 3 Door Pajero 91 Automatic Transmission converted.

    1. Do automatic trans use gear oil? if yes how many liters and what type of oil. What is the change interval?

    2. What type of Automatic Transmission Fluid usually suits the Pajero and how many liters? What is the recommended brand.

    3. How can i determine if my ATF is still good, since this is a converted unit, the seller told me that they put a new ATF but since i really cannot trust the seller i wana know if its really a new ATF.

    thanks in advance..

    marwen

    marwen,

The transmission (and the power steering) uses ATF (auto trans fluid). The transfer case, front and rear differentials use gear oil. I will check the volumes later. It is in my owner's manual.

Shell ATF is pretty good. Pero the ones from Caltex and Petron are basically just as good.

New ATF is colored red/pink. There is no real way of seeing if it is any good. Maybe you can drain a small amount to see the condition kung may mga metal flakes, other fluids mixed in, etc.

Pero no harm naman if you use PSF on an ATF system. Huwag lang siguro ATF on a PSF system. I'm not an expert on this so don't take my word for it.

Nasa manual kasi lahat iyan.

    DeltaBravo,

Hehehe. Tama, nakasunog na kami ng A/T dati. Tumagas pala fluid kaya 'kumatok' habang nasa EDSA.

    marwen,
    1) Check ATF level on the dipstick with the engine at idle, should see a level for cold and hot.
    2) Better to use the hot level, after a long drive, as an overall gauge on ATF quantity since overfilling the auto tranny is also not good.
    3) ATF comes in different grades, usually, dexron 2D or 3. Try the later dex3 and see if shifts smoother.

    Pajero Experts need your advise.
what is the capacity of pajero gen 2.5 automatic transmission fluid. From what I know you don't have to drain all the fluids at one time dahil may natitira pa sa reservoir. Thanks in advance.

Another thing, magkaiba pala reservoir ng ATF at transfercase (4WD). For pajero with Automatic Transmission equipped with 4WD, what is the type of fluid for 4WD transfercase ? Is it Gear Oil or ATF?

    HAYNES recommends (all models i.e 4g54, V6, 4d56, 4mf40):

    ATF
    Dexron II or Mercon ATF
    Capacity (approx)
    '86-earlier models= 3.7 ltrs.
    '87-later models= 5.1 ltrs

    Transfer Case lubricant
    SAE 80/90W GL-5 gear lubricant
    Capacity (approx) 2.4 ltrs

Hi RLP1099, Thanks, seems that you have your haynes in your pocket all the time.

Can somebody make a comments on Transfercase lubricant (SAE 80/90W..) if this is applicable also for engine with Auto Transmission. From what I heard kung manual daw ang ride Gear Oil or lubricant daw ang nilalagay. Pero kung A/T, ATF (Dexron II) din daw ang nilalagay sa Transfer Case? For those who changed Transfercase Fluid with A/T ano nilagay ninyo?
Sir PK nagpalit ka na ba?

Hi RLP, OTEP, thanks.. OK so Fluid in AT tranny is clear as crystal as ATF (Dexron II/Mecron) but for TCase haynes and mits manual require Gear Oil. The question now is yun Gear Oil sa transfercase applicable din ba kung auto tranny. If one will inspect the construction of AT and TCase under the hood looks like the AT and TCASE fluid/oil has the tendency to mix somewhere although they have different filling nut. The axle that passes on both system could also be filled with oil from these two. So ano nga kaya ang oil sa transfercase for Auto tranny Pajero Gen 2.5. Pasensya na at talagang naguluhan lang ako.
I asked casa on this at iba iba ang sagot nila some use ATF (Las Pinas) but makati and marcos ave recommend SAE90, di naman daw nila masyado pinapalitan ito dahil di naman daw madalas gamitin ang 4wd sa pinas. Ano ba talaga, share naman yun may personal experience on changing Tcase fluid with Auto tranny.

The tranfer case always use gear oil regardless if it's connected to an A/T or M/T.
