The Korean girl group hit song "Nobody" has joined Frank Sinatra’s "My Way" in the list of hit songs that could prove deadly for "music-challenged" Filipinos, a radio report said Thursday.
Leo Santos, 28-year-old electrician, was stabbed and beaten to death for failing to recognize the song being sung by one of the suspects, said a report on dzRH radio, quoting police.
According to the radio report, Santos died Sept. 3 after being assaulted in Manila's Tondo district. Police are now looking for the suspects, who are said to be members of a fraternity.
A witness was quoted by police as saying that the victim was buying cigarettes from a store when the suspects approached him and asked him to name the song one of them was singing.
When Santos replied that he did not know the song, the suspects beat him up and stabbed him twice.
"Nobody" is a dance pop song recorded by Korean girl group Wonder Girls. It was released as a digital download single on Sept. 22, 2008 in South Korea.
Police have reported in past years about some "trying hard" singers getting stabbed or mauled in karaoke bars for singing the wrong lyrics or melody, or refusing to share the microphone. There were also instances in which the song being sung at the time of violence was the late 60s hit "My Way." - GMANews.TV
