Ex-Marine fends off robbers, kills 1

    Wednesday, May 31, 2006; Posted: 10:06 a.m. EDT (14:06 GMT)

Thomas Autry, who authorities said will not be charged, was walking home from his job waiting tables Monday night when four people got out of a car and chased him, Atlanta police detective Danny Stephens said. One attacker had a shotgun, and another had a pistol.

"My first instinct was to run, but they cornered me, so I had no other choice than to defend myself," Autry said.

The suspects caught up with Autry, who yelled for help and pulled a knife out of his backpack. He kicked the shotgun out of one of the attacker's hands and stabbed both a 17-year-old girl who jumped on him and a man who also attacked him.

The suspects fled in their car, but police found them later at a hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. The stabbed man was in critical condition, Stephens said.

Autry's attackers will face robbery and assault charges and are suspected in other recent robberies, Stephens said.

Autry, 36, suffered a cut to his hand and a bruise on his chest, Stephens said.

Autry said he was honorably discharged in 1992 after serving for four years. The Department of Defense confirmed his service.

    galing.

I read about a story like that too during the 70's about this guy defending himself in a bar against a couple of football players. needless to say, the players were in critical condition afterwards.

Why you should never mug a Marine?

Tingnan nyo na lang yung katawan ni Col. Querubim. 1:10 yata ratio nun.

Yung mga marines nga na patpatin eh ang lalakas din...

Notice that the Marine only fought when he had no other option. According to other news reports on this incident that I've come across, the Marine tried to escape first while shouting "Fire! Fire!" but he had to slow down to retrieve the pocket knife from his packpack, which is when the muggers caught up with him.

I wish all cases involving self-defense were this clear cut and had such happy endings. Also, I hope someone gives this Marine a decent folding knife that he can carry on his person --it's no fun rummaging through a knapsack for a pocket knife when your life is in danger.

That means he's retired... not fired.

Sadly, in the US... cases like in Con-Air are all too common. If someone gets hurt or hurts themself while tresspassing, they can sue you. But it's not as OA as in Con-Air... not all of the time, at least.
