Are you in favor of gene drive?

It's a way of eliminating an entire species of a creature, right now they are targeting mosquitos. What they will do is genetically engineer a bunch of male mosquitos to only produce male offsprings. And those male baby mosquitos will have same trait and will also produce only male mosquitoes.

Generation after generation female mosquitoes will be less and less until they are completely wiped out.

Given that the Philippines has dengue, chikungunya and malaria problems. This can solve that problem.

The scientist already have those male mosquitoes, they already tested it in a controlled environment. All they're waiting for is the approval of those community.

    "with great caution."
we do not know how complete elimination of the mosquito species, will affect the rest of nature.
...perhaps test it in a small island...?

Looking at it from all angles, what benefit/s do mosquitos have? They are the number one killer & more humans have died by them than all the wars combined.

they're food for other life forms.
if they disappear, those other life forms may die out also, or they may develop a palate for other life-forms for food.
these extrapolations can go no end...
how all these gravitate to us-the-humans and our way of life as we know it... i do not know.

    however,
the passenger pigeon and the dodo disappeared, but it did not seem to have made a small dent on our lives...

^the only thing that comes to mind now is “overpopulation”. No more check & balance. Our quest for survival will be our undoing eventually.

Its a community in Africa and the project is being funded by US military. Maybe that's the test?
