I don't think contentment and motivation are mutually exclusive.

You can be happy with where you are, yet always have your sights towards improving yourself.

To use a sports example, I think I play pretty decent badminton, enough to beat a high school varsity player perhaps. I'm grateful to be able to play at that level, especially as so many people don't even have the fitness level to do so even if they wanted to.

But that doesn't mean I'm okay with stagnating. Every time I play, I always try to raise my level to be able to compete with the college varsity players. I always try to find ways to improve my game and work on it slowly but surely. I get frustrated every time I have bad games, but overall I'm still happy that I get to play.

You can replace badminton with income, career, love life, etc.

    3 tips I'd give:

    1. Focus on your sphere of influence
    2. Have a clear vision of what you want and how to get there
    3. Suck it up through the tough times and don't give up

An attitude of gratitude goes a very long way.

We can't dispose it because we don't have money to pay estate tax. It's so complicated

But thank you for reminding me that I am so lucky with my Aunties. I really am. Their generosity is more than I could ever ask for (two of them volunteered to pay for my education in the US) I had an argument with my Mom because I told her I want to sell my Gen 11. She thinks it's so impulsive of me to want to sell my Gen 11 because of a locking problem. I told her I will just borrow money from my Aunt and she got mad at me. My Aunt said kasi after I bought my Gen 11 that I should have told her I wanted a Montero so she could have given me the 300k difference. So I am kinda just "claiming" it now. I already told my Mom magtiis na lang ako sa sirain ko na Gen 11.

We don't loan cars talaga. I live debt free. The only time I will loan will be for a property.

I disagree. You have everything that a lot of people (including myself) don't have - youth, successful career, stable relationship, healthy family.

This reminds me of my friend who was genuinely so distraught when her parents told her they might need to move out of their house in Makati to Alabang. She complained about how Alabang is so far, the toll is so expensive and her gas consumption will go up etc etc. Awang awa na siya sa sarili niya na lilipat sila sa AAV

But I do think people who live in lower middle class neighborhoods are happier. Whenever I would watch the news about new years celebrations in Tondo, naiinggit ako. So much people and they can just be happy and silly.

I am debt free but 100k net is definitely not enough for a person living alone and paying all the bills.

As per TRAIN, Family homes valued up to P10M are now exempted from estate tax.

And everything else is a flat tax rate of 6% as opposed to previously being a progressive tax rate.

You might find that your estate tax this year is very low or zero.

I was referring to the things EQ mentioned - your 2 cars, your home in an exclusive subdivision plus an ancestral home in the province, etc.

My car? I worked for it. My condo? I saved for it. My relationship? I persevered for it. My career? I invested my time and effort for it.

My parents never gave me a car (nor could they afford to). My family has never owned a home. I didn't have a lot of the things my classmates had growing up. But I didn't sulk - I made a plan to improve my life, and worked for it. I can proudly say that everything was earned, not given.

There will always be things that other people have that we don't. But likewise, there are things that we have that others don't. And that's what we should be focusing on so we can live a life of gratitude.
