I used to do mtb for a few years, trails 2x a week, did monthly century every month or so, i also have a stationtionary bike at the office, trained even when i wasnt riding, it was nice, i was fit but i was also losing lean mass also which in turn drove my metabolism down, then i ate too much carbs and simple sugars for energy, i overcompensated, coz of this i didnt lose too much belly fat, thats where i learned that you cannot out exercise a bad diet, that was my mistake. now i just do a stationary bike at my target heart rate for about 20mins a day, im a size 33 from 38/40, im 6ft, biking is good, just skip the carb loading

    Im wearing black

Posture matters a lot when riding a bike. Granted, I don't overeat. But, having the seat high (on my 10-speed) put my belly muscles under a lot of tension. Coupled with the pedaling, I get a good workout. No standing up on the pedals to get a burst of speed. Just a steady pedaling, sitting down and crouched over.

I usually ride the bike during the cooler months here. With summer looming, it'll be too hot for me and I'll switch my cardio exercises to the gym.

I also juggle a soccer ball if I want to sweat quickly and burn calories, approximately 60-70 taps of the ball (with both feet) per minute. I'd be sweating after two minutes. After 15 minutes, I'd be drenched and there'd be a pool of sweat under my feet.

I track my calorie intake and weight (plus blood pressure) manually via an Excel spreadsheet.

I also cut down on meats and rice. That meant not eating a lot of my wife's cooking and sticking to a more "American" diet such as cereal/oatmeal or an occasional biscuit with gravy in the morning, a sandwich for lunch, soup and crackers for dinner.

I'm about where I want to be with regard to weight and body mass. So, I'm mainly in maintenance mode.

When I exercise at home, it's 4x a week. Once I switch to the gym, it'll be 5x a week because the gym is at work. Might as well get it done before going home.

Buttom line is there is no magic pill, no secret exercise, no one diet fits all, its hard work. If someone tells you otherwise, theyre taking something illegal, best is to start and start now. and having too much viceral fat is a sign that something is wrong, a good guide is height in inches diveded 2, example if height 5 6" , so 66"/2, your waist must be no more than 33", if youre 6ft, your waist should be no more than 36".
Having a 6 pack is good but some of us cant do 10% body fat.

It definitely takes a while. The only way to know if a fitness program is working is to record each day's progress.

One legacy of being a veteran is I still do PT. Unlike many people my age, I still fit into my AF service dress uniform. You never know if the local VFW will ask for volunteers to march in a 4th of July parade or Memorial Day activities.

I used to play indoor soccer and full-court basketball until a few years ago. Nowadays, I stick to half-court basketball. I quit soccer altogether. But, I still juggle the ball for fun. The neighborhood kids love it.
