MANILA, Philippines -- A 31-year-old woman died and her husband was seriously injured when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by another motorcycle and then run over by a passenger jeep on Elliptical Road, Quezon City Tuesday morning, police said.
Ma. Victoria Lito of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan died instantly of severe head injuries. Her husband Lamberto, 31, is still in critical condition at the East Avenue Medical Center, police said.
The driver of the jeep, Marana Merari, 29, surrendered to authorities after the accident, police said.
Senior Police Officer 4 Jefferson Dagay, Special Traffic Action Group investigator, said the victims were traversing Elliptical Road on board a Honda XRM motorcycle (NF 2668) driven by Lamberto when another motorcycle sideswiped them at around 10:25 a.m.
"Because of the impact, the motorcycle fell on its left side. The protective helmets they were wearing were also destroyed," Dagay told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
An oncoming jeep (CWS 609) driven by Merari ran over the victims, Dagay said.
He said they filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and serious physical injuries against Merari.

yes, I think there is something wrong. unless the paper didn't said it all. I have seen MC hitting each other too. even with slow speed, it is still deadly.

Well, Pinas yan, as long as may kotse and human casualty involved, laging may kasalanan at kakasuhan yung driver...
Kahit kung nag80 ka sa NLE and some idiot crosses the highway, ikaw padin may sala...

It's the elliptical road, which is supposedly one way right? The "oncoming" jeep... that's what's wrong.

February 12th, 2008 07:37 PM #5i think what they meant was the jeep is at the back of the motorcycle on the same lane. lets see, whats the proper term for that? it would also mean the motorycle swerved to the lane of the jeep, thereby, the jeep "accidentaly" run over them.
this i think is the part what is wrong, should the jeep driver be charged for reckless when infact the motorcycle was sideswiped and swrved on to the lane of the jeep?
what would the jeep's defense be?

wrong composition lang ito by the writer, but i am sure he meant that the jeep was traveling on the same way..
sa question naman na bat ang mananagot ang jeep, walang pinagkaiba yan if nag sudden brake ang nasa harapan mo, even intentionally, ikaw pa rin ang mananagot.

i guess if the jeep was really coming from the opposite direction dahil sabi nga "oncoming", then it would have made a bigger story. but the report focused on the motorcycle getting sideswept by the other motorcycle so i guess the jeep was traveling in the same direction as the motorcycle.
btw, from the report, it seems that the other motorcycle got away.

It's looking a lot like a certain cruiser with that color scheme.
