Malaysian MRT Corp chief resigns over worksite mishap

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Mass RapidTransit Corporation (MRT Corp) chief executive Azhar Abdul Hamid yesterday tendered his resignation to shoulder the blame for a deadly construction site accident in which three foreign workers died.

“As the head of MRT Corp, I am taking personal responsibility for the incident and this is the correct thing to do. I have informed the chairman of MRT Corp, Dr Ali Hamsa, of my decision,” said Mr Azhar. His resignation will take effect today.

The Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 is still examining if mechanical or human failure caused last Wednesday’s train crash. But hasty Transport Sec. Joseph Emilio Abaya already has a conclusion. Two train drivers did it, he insists, and so had them booked by the Pasay City police. That’s of course to cover up the real culprit: sloppy maintenance of the railway by the contractor, his own compadre, one Marlo dela Cruz.

Reading between the lines of the initial incident report, non-upkeep truly is to blame. The drivers are least culpable, and even their fault can be traced to dela Cruz’s Global Inc., in joint venture with Autre Porte Technique (APT).

Watched Abaya last night sa Aquino Abunda tonight.

Yun dalawang drivers pala is contractual employees. ano kaya qualification to be a train driver or mechanic ba tawag nila dun?

For me, review and audit current policies and practices, i assume technical experts nag sulat and nag agree dito prior to implementation.

Lets stick muna sa scenario na ito, if proven na blunder nga ng driver is it just to demand for the head of the office to resign?

what i don't get is who in their right mind decided to have the broken train pushed instead of pulled? ngayon lang ako naka rinig na tinulak ang train. i'm no engineer or train expert but it's pretty obvious that pushing something as heavy as a train then trying to stop from behind will be pretty damn hard and next to impossible on a downhill road.

in the first place, kung properly maintained ang train di sana tumirik at di kailangan itulak

pero kung ayos ang train di sana nangyari lahat yan

sa mga airplane din naman ganyan din, why blame the managers, mechanics, the administrator, the political appointee, maraming mawawalan ng trabaho.

if you put the blame with the drivers madali ang investigation, close case agad. tutal ilan years na lang pag napalitan na si Pnoy iba na din ang mag manage ng MRT.

o nga naman... yung Rizal Ave. LRT is far older than EDSA MRT pero parang wala news na tumitirik

maybe mas tutok ang media sa EDSA MRT

A few years ago, I would usually see a Unimog service truck on the place where that MRT coach overshot.

This would be the proper vehicle to rescue those broken trains. I wonder kung nasaan na ito ngayon.
