India is the dirtiest country I have ever been to. I have heard people say that Pakistan, which is to the west and Bangladesh, to the east, are worse, but that is probably beyond the limits of my imagination.

In two months in India, I went from south to north, visiting some tourist towns that I had read about. I also went by train and bus to countless towns and open fields that weren’t so famous, and everywhere there were people had something in common — dirty, messy and stank. Interestingly, I also saw countless foreigners having a great time.

Tourists have been coming for years to the small town of Bodhgaya , the place where 2500 years ago Buddha achieved enlightenment, bringing their foreign money to the pockets of a few hotels and tourism operators, but still they live in abject poverty. The streets are lined with rubbish, wild animals squabble to find their breakfast in it. Look carefully and find wild pigs, dogs, mountain goats, and sometimes even cows, which are considered sacred, make an appearance. No wonder the locals don’t each much meat, these animals depend on trash to survive.

Maybe biased lang ako since i only see the bad parts, but India does seem quite dirty. It baffles me why tourists want to go there. Wasn't there a series of gang rapes there? As bad as things are here, i think we're waaaay better off than India.

Ironic isn't it: they're a nuclear power, pero...

Never mind the gang rapes: women are routinely groped in their public transportation; embassies advise/require its citizens to take vaccinations when going there; tourists are advised not to drink the water, etc. etc.

But to be fair, the Chinese aren't the best tourists. afaik China is the only country that has to issue "how to be a good tourist" guides to its people. Yung staff ng HK Disneyland, na culture shock when they saw Chinese mothers letting their kids pee on the sidewalk.

Yung sinulat ng blogger about people living in squalor even with the country's status...that can also apply to China. Di lahat ng tao sa China umaasenso.

Sorry kung me natamaan...totoo lang naman e.

Ang alam ko, they lay their dead to rest in the Ganges river. Not sure if it's a Hindu practice. So medyo culture shock talaga when you realize so many people bathe there every day. Baka walang choice.

Sabi nga ni Jeremy Wade, kaya daw me river monster sa Ganges....i guess from their POV, they consider it as returning your body to nature, para maka sustain naman ng ibang life. Pero ako cremate na lang

nung nasa US ako, me staffhouse na bukod ung mga
anaps. tapos me driver kami na mexican na naghahatid
sundo from staffhouse to office. reklamo sya para daw dumpsite
staffhouse nung mga anaps pag pinupuntahan nung
    tagalinis.

sa singapore, reklamo naman ng mga lokal na nagpaparenta ng condo/HDB, ayaw nila ng anaps at messy daw na tenant.
pero ibaiba din naman yung mga ugali nila depende kung
    sang region sila galing.

pero me mga babaeng anaps na ubod ng ***y na kahit
me amoy eh ok lng na makatabi ko sa train or bus. ;)

i remember an episode of monster fish dati. iirc, they theorized
that some kind of fish in the ganges might have grown
so big because of the corpses of dead people being washed or thrown
there becoming food for creatures living in it.
