the sooner you can go to higher gears the better. i read economical speeds may be as low as 60kph to a high of 90 at 5th gear (kung kaya ng engine). tama ba that the average speed of traffic in metro manila is 23-25 kph? sa bangkok daw e 15-18kph?
i also heard na pag yung rpm needle is pointing at 12 o'clock, yan yung optimum level ng engine with most economical consumption.

miks, mga 3k++ to 4k++ na to ah. di ang bilis na nun....
still sir ssaloon oo nga 3500 rpm na ata to pag nasa 5th gear ako nasa around 140 to 150kph na po ako nyan hehehe kahit na hi way...
i always believe na around 2K++ rpm ang pinakamaganda. at 5th gear around 80kph ka naman na nun
in one of the latest top gear episodes jeremy clarkson drove an audi over a distance of 800kms (about something like that anyway) on one tank of gas, car was an audi, and he never went over 1200 rpm
and as always from what i know the lower the rpm at the higher gear the better mileage you get
... well that was something he tried anyway
and anyway on philippine roads that would not apply but it would be best to apply certain driving techniques then just maintaining an economical speed, depends din kc kung taga saan ka, I live in pque city and most of the way to the office is expressway + edsa and these are not that traffic so for that driving around 80kph would be economical....
sir chris_d matagal na yan ah
not over 1200rpm
no aircon at as much as pos d siya nag bebreak hehe
afaik 60-80kph highway driving...
city driving stop and go palagi kaya no choice ka sa speed depende sa condition ng traffic... hinay lang sa gas pedal...
IMHO sa Metro Manila, 40kph-60kph and shifting between 2k-2.5k RPM.Originally posted by me_jake13

out of town drives, I normally shift at 3k RPM on easy driving which normally means, at least for me, 80kph at 5th gear.
Pero kapag good open roads, like some good stretch going to bicol, I shift at 4k RPM.
As much as possible, you shift at the point where it will get you into the next gear without dragging the engine. For me, this is just below 2000rpm, while it's around 1200rpm for a diesel. For smaller engines, it's slightly higher. And it's not just what rpm you shift at... it's how smoothly you get there. Use as little of the gas pedal as possible.
best speed is between 60-90kph, depending on how aerodynamic your car is, and what rpm it needs to hold that speed.
BTW, Jeremy Clarkson was driving an Audi V8 diesel... with a big tank... he got almost 14 km/l... but it was a good stunt.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
hindi ba pagmasmabilis ka (or higher gear) masmatipid? eh di ang optimal level ay 150-200kph... hanggang saan abutin...
The most economical speed would be 60-80km/h driving in top gear. Give the adjustment for minus/addition of gearings for trannys and ring gears.
thats why its good to have M/T cars..i drive an A/T kaya i dont have control on the shiftin of gears
An A/T can be driven on top gear while travelling at 60-80km/h speed. Gradual and light step on accelerator and feel the engine response slowly rising rpm to 1500-2000 (depending on engine/tranny). It should shift up and be able to cruise economically.
