Honest soldier dies before being honored for deed

AN HONEST Army major returned 300,000 pesos in excess withdrawals to a Land Bank of the Philippines branch in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, but died before he could be recognized for his good deed.

Maj. Robert Manlapat figured in a motorcycle accident in Kalikid village, Cabanatuan, last Saturday and died a day later at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, Army spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Bartolome Bacarro said.

Manlapat, together with Technical Sergeant Danilo Morga, went to the Land Bank Cabanatuan branch around noon of March 19 to withdraw three million pesos for the operating expenses of Fort Magsaysay in Laur town, Land Bank Assistant Vice President Merlino Ocampo said in a phone interview.

After they left, they discovered they had withdrawn 300,000 pesos more than intended and decided to return the excess amount to the bank later that day, Ocampo said.

"I wrote the two of them a letter to thank them for returning the money," Ocampo said.

Army chief, Lieutenant General Hermogenes Esperon Jr., will posthumously award a plaque of appreciation to Manlapat on Monday. He will also give a similar plaque to Morga.

"Definitely, he is a loss to the Armed Forces,” Bacarro said of Manlapat. “He is a true soldier, loyal to his job, as manifested by his decision to return the money."

we just lost 2 employees the past 2 or 3 weeks. pinakamasipag at mabait pa naman sila. one died of heart attack, while the other was hit by a truck a died instantly. may kasama syang nabundol and is still in hospital but out of danger na. though he might not be able to return to work for at least 6mos. puro masisipag, madaling utusan at hindi marunong magreklamo mga ito. hindi pa nagaabsent.

Yeah, but bakit yung mga good people ang nadedbol, like the employees of Boybi? Bakit hindi nalang yung mga siraulo at masasamang tao na palaging nasa balita ng good squad ang namatay? Like yung tumututok ng baril, or yung mga carnaper na pumapatay? etc. etc.?

Why do good people die?

Its coz God allows it. God does not interfere.

If God will strike down every bad person and reward every good person, then there would be no need for faith. There would be no free will to choose to obey God or not.

Everyone would be so afraid to get struck by lightning that every will be forced to obey God. God doesnt want things like that. He wants us to obey Him coz we choose to.

God allowed 6 million Jews to die in WW2.

God allowed hundreds of thousands to die in the Asian tsunami a few years ago.

Heck, God allows babies to get cancer.
