    Transport groups and militant labor organizations will hold a nationwide transport strike this coming thursday. Usual impossible demands such removal of VAT on oil prices, repeal of the oil deregulation law, return of the OPSF, free money for everyone, blah blah blah...

    Contingency plans are now being readied for the scheduled protest actions by transport groups on March 31 to make sure commuters will not be inconvenienced, Malacaņang said Sunday.

    Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office secretary Ramon Carandang also reiterated that they are not keen to re-regulate the oil industry as demanded by some transport organizations.

    "[As far as] contingencies for the strike, I’m sure the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the local government will do everything to allow them (transport groups) to express their opinion without disrupting the day or the life or the work of other people," Carandang said on government-run dzRB radio.

    Militant transport groups earlier said they are to mount a nationwide protest against rising fuel prices on March 31.

    The Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) said this may include a transport strike in parts of Pampanga province in Central Luzon and in Mindanao.

    "Sa March 31 tuloy ang protest natin. Sa Visayas may transport caravan sa Bacolod, Iloilo, Roxas at Cebu. Magkakaroon din ng noise barrage at caravan," PISTON secretary general George San Mateo said in a separate interview on dzBB radio.

    (We will push through with the protest on March 31. There will be similar transport caravans in Bacolod, Iloilo, Roxas and Cebu cities in the Visayas. There will be a noise barrage too.)

    He said their allied organizations in Pampanga and Mindanao had also agreed to hold a transport strike on that day.

    In Manila, San Mateo said at least 200 public utility vehicles and 500 drivers and operators will join a transport caravan to Mendiola Bridge near Malacaņang. Expected to join them are militant government employees, teachers and youths, he said.

    An earlier report by radio dzBB's Allan Gatus said the Manila-based protesters will gather at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City and proceed to Mendiola Bridge near Malacaņang to dramatize their plight.

    On the other hand, Carandang said the government is not keen on accommodating demands to remove the deregulation on the oil industry and sell fuel at subsidized prices.

    He said the Philippines cannot afford to subsidize fuel by buying at high world prices and selling at low prices.

    “Nakita natin ano ang naging resulta ng ganyang klaseng policy, nakita natin sa NFA lumobo ang utang ng Pilipinas ... Pero sa tingin namin iba dapat ang maging solution di pupwersahin mo ibenta nang palugi ang presyo ng krudo. Maghahanap tayo ng ibang solution diyan," he said.

    (We have seen how a policy of subsidy has incurred so much debt, like in the case of the National Food Authority. There must be other solutions to this and we will look for those solutions.)

    go for P60/liter sa diesel so that we can finally see the reduction of these inefficient machines and backwards thinking jologs

    impose more fines/taxes on safety sa construction ng jeepneys and rolling coffin buses

    increase a %100 more the license registration of Pro License

    yan ang dapat implement

    I am so amazed that the drivers of those jalopies and moving coffins had the guts to protest with the rising of fuel prices and yet they drive daily as if they are in a race track or idling for long minutes and blocking the flow of traffic.

    Have you ever experienced to be on the side a bus on a red light? Notice that once the light turns green, they pump the gas pedal multiple times or they do lots and lots a jack rabbits and just a few inches of moving, they step on the gas pedal full force then brake. Also the sudden stops at full speeds then sudden go. The same goes for PUJ and other public transports.

    So instead of protesting on the streets, they should start learning or attending seminars on gas saving tips. But I highly doubt that they would attend coz for sure they would say again... "Mahirap lang kami, wala na kaming panahon mag aral."

    As usual, short-sighted morons who think they know economics and always put their own wants and needs before everything else. These stupid rallies are proof of that. Ok lang sa kanila gumawa ng traffic, gumawa ng istorbo at inconvenience sa mga ibang tao, basta makuha ang gusto nila.

    Expect massive vandalism on public property while you're at it.

    All who join said strike should be revoked of their franchises as well.

    Oh, and what about the issue of PISTON not being registered, and therefore, is not actually a legitimate organization?


    And again, as always, I'd like to throw the following statement to jeepdiots:

    "Ayusin nyo muna pagmamaneho nyo bago kayo humingi ng dagdag pasada."

    kung namamahalan na sila sa diesel at hindi na sila kumikita, mag hanap na lang sila ibang trabaho.

    Sobra ka naman bro lalong pahirap sa mamamayan gusto mo mangyari d lang naman public transpo maaapektuhan nyan pati na rin private car owners na gumagamit ng diesel at sa prof drivers license d lang din public transpo drivers holders meron din sa private car owners. Opinion lang bro.

    Hindi naman lahat ng jeepney driver nalulugi na. Yung uncle ko, jeepney driver sa pampanga, 700 pesos per day neto nya. tatlo anak nya, graduate na yung isa, full time housewife ang asawa, wala silang reklamo sa buhay. Yung ibang driver kasi, daming bisyo. wala na nga makain, bili pa ng bili ng yosi, alak sa gabi, me kabit pa. pambili na lang bigas, itataya pa sa lotto.

    The funny thing is, if you try to check all PISS-TON members for their driving licenses, I'd wager you'd find out the a lot of them only have student permits.

    i agree, may uncle din ako sa tarlac na driver napa graduate niya anak niya nang engineering with some help with his siblings, pero wala siya bisyo and sumakay nadin ako sakanya di siya balasubas magdrive, sunod sa batas trapiko..

    Kung sana ganto lahat nang jeepney driver, wala abala sa daan, PUJ play an important role to our country, di naman lahat afford mag taxi and a private vehicle.. Sana lang matuto mga balasubas na jeepney driver na sumunod sa batas!

    nagpaparamdam lang siguro ang PISTON dahil yung ibang mga kasama nila sa congress ay hindi na halos na feature sa media... di sila makapapel masyado sa impeachment... wala sila gaanong maipukol sa NoyNoy Admin.. kaya eto na lang.. at least nasa balita pa..

    ang solution dyan.. tirahin ng LTFRB... same sa ginawa nila kay Ms. Claire dela Fuente sa mga bus nya nung nag strike sila kamakailan... tignan natin kung ano gagawin nila..
