go with USB. Most new desktops and all new laptops doesn't come with parallel ports anymore. You can get rid of those big, thick parallel cables (havent seen those for a long time) with a universal USB cable.

mas ok nga USB kc pwede mo ikabit sa laptop...although kung sa computer sa bahay mas mabilis daw parallel nadinig ko sa technician nung nagpapaayos kami ng printer...

-simpler to connect more than one device to the same port

Actually, USB is faster than the old parallel port. But...

While USB is faster, most users won't notice the difference between a USB and parallel connection....The speed of the PC as it processes the data, and the speed of the printer itself, will make more of a difference.

USB 1.1 is about 12Mbps and USB 2.0 is about 400Mbps while parallel is much slower than USB 1.1 (about 115KBps)

advantage:

-USB Printer: plug n play bro...if you have 2 PCs...salpak dito, salpak dun without problems...

disadvantage: if you have many usb devices like optical mouse, usb keyboard, usb scanner, digital camera...hassle if your motherboard has only 2 built-in USB ports

yeah, in ordinary small-office/home-office usage, you won't notice much, if any, difference in the performance of parallel vs. USB.

if you can spare a USB slot, use USB, but if you have more USB devices than ports, you can plug the printer into the parallel port.

i have a scanner, opti mouse na naka connect sa usb sa likod. so san ko lagay yng usb printer? sa harap ?

You can buy a powered USB hub if you run out of USB ports on your computer.

usb port na kasama po sa casing? konting ingat lang po, a technician once warned me that improperly wired casing ports(i.e. mali ang pagkabit ng wires to the mobo) could fry usb devices. either consult the manual or ask the technician to connect the casing port to your mobo

I think the question is the difference between the two ports. Between the two, Parallel Port sends data in parallel, meaning simultaneously data bits at one time. While USB is sending data sequentially meaning one bit at a time. In short, Parallel port is faster in sending data to the printer or to any parallel port compatible devices than the USB or the old Serial Port. For instance I have 8 bits of data from PC to Printer, in parallel port, it would be send in 1 second while in USB, it would be send in 8 secs.

The disadvantage of Parallel port is bulky in size compared to USB.

you can always get a USB hub to increase your USB ports. A USB hub typically gives you 4 USB ports for the one port you connect it to.

only thing i can think of is that USB connected printers transmit faster (or spool faster) than LPT connected printers.

yup. and its cheap. normally costs from 300 pesos to 700 pesos.
yung USB hub ko nga comes pa with a firewire connection para sa IPOD ko.

yng firewire ba isang klase lang. meron kc ako mini dv cam na jvc. need a firewire to connect to pc. pareho kaya ito nong sa ipod mo?
