on Gil disqualification

THE SUPREME court issued a status quo order that
would set aside temporarily the Commission on Elections (Comelec) ruling disqualifying businessman Eddie Gil from the presidential race, a court spokesman said Wednesday.

"He can campaign again," lawyer Ismael Khan told INQ7.net.

In an en banc resolution, the court also ordered the Comelec to respond to Gil's motion for reconsideration within five days.

Khan said a final decision on whether Gil would be disqualified would be out in two weeks.

"There's a sense of urgency," he said.

Of the five presidential candidates, Gil placed last consistently in pre-election surveys.

The Comelec en banc ruled in early April that Gil was a "nuisance candidate" and was therefore not qualified to run for president.

It upheld a ruling of its second division in March and denied Gil's motion for reconsideration.

The decision was signed by the seven commissioners, but one of their colleagues, Virgilio Garcillano, did not participate in the deliberations.

The case against Gil was filed by supporters of presidential candidate evangelist Eddie Villanueva who feared that if Gil was allowed to run, votes for him might be declared "stray votes'' and not counted in his favor.

PROBE: iyon po ang papayagan niyo po ung mga airlines na magkaroon ng routes over the philippine skies?

MRS. GIL: Why Of course! He does the household chores and sometimes is the one who goes to the market, I have nothing else to do that’s why I support him.

PROBE: What is the business of eddie gil?

ELIZABETH: Nagpapautang sya sa mga countries na may kailangan. For example Korea, nung kelangan nila ng funding nagpautang kame sa kanila…..

EG: Yun nga yung una kong gagawin, aayusin ang Pilipinas.

EG: Ano'ng net worth?
VM (nanlumo sa sagot): Hmm.. yung halaga po ninyo, yung halaga ng mga ari-arian nyo?
EG: Ah, hindi ko masasabi kung magkano ang halaga ko.

VM: Isa po sa plano nyo yung gawin dollar ang currency ng Pilipinas.
EG: Oo, gagawin nating Philippine dollar. Bakit yung ibang bansa, dollar ang gamit. Ang Korea, may Korean dollar. Ang China, CHinese dollar.
VM (confused na): Dollar ba ang gamit ng Korea, hindi ba Won? Saka ang China, Yuan di ba?
EG: Dollar din yun.
