Look at what’s happened to me,
    I can’t believe it myself.
Suddenly I’m up on top of the world,
    It should’ve been somebody else.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
    Who could it be?
Believe it or not it’s just me.

It’s like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true.

Believe it or not, I’m walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be? Believe it or not it’s just me.

    from wikipedia
t was one of the most popular Japanese super-robot series shown in the Philippines dubbed in the English language. However, its broadcasting history experienced polticial intrigue and controversy after being banned by the former Philippine president Marcos.

According to rumors, Ferdinand Marcos was the true-to-life representation of the character Boazanian Emperor Zu Zambajil while the late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., a political opponent to Marcos, was compared to Baron Hrothgar, the heroic creator of Voltes V.

    from someone's website

The anime was banned from Philippine Television by the late President Marcos because it was supposedly promoting violence and destruction. However, historians agreed that it wasn't really the violence that was causing the dictator's objection. It was more of the subliminal messages that Voltes V projected that worried the president. He wisely judged that children would grow up and realize that they were living in oppression, and that only time will tell if they would follow the footsteps of an anime character that led bloody revolution against the fictitious Boazanian aristocracy.

jerkky: "see-true (careful, careful, kailangan nating maging careful)-may buzzer tapos ate luds, phone in question"

Alam ninyo ba kung sino ang isa sa mga original na phone-in question announcers ng see-true?..... Kung hindi ako nagkakamali, siya ay si Kabayan Noli Boy De Castro. Tama ba?

Masarap isipin na kaya banned ang Voltes V kasi takot si Marcos na baka magkaroon ng ideas ang sambayanan about Martial Law, leading to a mass rebellion against the government.

Unfortunately, this was not the case.

The only reason Marcos banned Voltes V from Philippine airwaves was because the station that was airing the show was the number one station in the country, surpassing two other government-owned stations. But the anime wasn't the only show taken off the air; Marcos also banned other top-rating programs such as Charlie's Angels, saying that the violence on such shows had a negative effect on children.

In short, ratings at revenue lang po ang dahilan ng pagkakatanggal sa Voltes V.

    Interesting.

What if Marcos didn't ban Voltes V? Wala sigurong EDSA revolution.

I bet half of the rallyists then wants the ending of Voltes V.

Now imagine if GMA bans Jewel in the Palace...

They also banned coin-fed electronic video games in arcades right around the same time frames, no? Then, they allowed it again a few years later.
