IN AN effort to stop the opening of what they called a "mosque," the Federation of Greenhills Associations of San Juan has launched a campaign to boycott the shopping center.

In a newsletter dated October 2004, the federation said that they should do everything to make Ortigas & Co. reconsider its decision to build a "mosque."

The newsletter disclosed plans of officers of the three Greenhills homeowners associations to launch legal actions, demonstrations and a boycott of the Greenhills Shopping Center.

The newsletter was signed by Carlos Yam, chair and president of Northeast Greenhills Association; Don Alviar, president, and Preciosa Soliven, chair of North Greenhills Association; and Crisanto Sy, president, and George Barcelon, chair of West Greenhills Association.

They urged all residents to join the boycott if they do not want Greenhills "to be the next Quiapo or Taguig where we will be living in perpetual fear for our lives."

They cited that there was no building permit issued for the "mosque," which is actually a prayer room.
