The xB is economical. It's a Toyota Echo platform expanded to fit American size people.
A lot of us have known this for years. When you remove the tax breaks given by the government and the money Toyota loses on each Prius built... they don't really make any economical sense at all.
Or environmental sense. Most small vehicles make more sense than the Prius.

EPA is the problem. Their tests are not realistic, I mean 55mph these days? I drove today at 80mph and cars were passing me as if I was at a standstill. EPA is also responsible for the thinner paint on new cars, and the softer windshield glass as well.
Clean diesels is the way to go. It's just too bad that here in CA, diesel isn't really looked at the same way as gasoline is.
Currently, the Toyota Yaris and the Honda Fit are the top two cars that produce the best MPG in the subcompact segment in the US. When the Smart car is released here, I'm sure it will rank among the top as well.
The Prius is the ultimate Japanese car. Why?
1. It's powered by a huge battery.
2. It's for technology geeks.
3. It's an appliance that gets you from A to B (what other purpose does it serve?)
4. It's ugly.
