Bus passengers pictures taken to prevent robbery
[SIZE=2]Passengers in Manila would have to pose for a picture first before being allowed to board buses bound for the provinces. The picture-taking scheme is the police's new tactic to prevent bus robberies, particularly on buses that travel to the provinces.
A DZMM report said that the Manila Police District (MPD) started the new anti-criminality scheme on Thursday. The scheme was tested on bus terminals located along Rizal and Doroteo Jose avenues in Manila.
Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales, MPD director, said the police and bus companies will keep a file of the passengers' photos, which will be reviewed when bus robberies are reported.
In an interview, newly-installed National Police chief Deputy Director General Avelino Razon Jr., said he was scheduled to meet with the Manila City council. Razon said he will ask the Manila City government to pass an ordinance that will require the "picture-taking scheme" to bus passengers in Manila.
Under the new scheme, Razon said bus companies will be allowed to keep the passengers' photo files for three days. He clarified that only the bus companies' employees are allowed to take the photos through a digital camera.
If there are no reported robbery incidents after three days, the files of the photos would have to be removed from the memory cards of the bus companies' cameras.
Razon said the police would have to wait for the Manila city to issue an ordinance for the new scheme before it becomes fully operational.
