    Oh, Geocities. Those were the days. I still remember setting up sites on various "cities". :D

    Love the way you'd pick out a house there like you're in a neighborhood.

    I had my first taste of BBS in 1989 in a friend's house. He had a 2400 baud (roughly 2.4 Kbps) RS-232 acoustic coupler attached to his phone and we had a blast chatting with other BBS members, as well as exchanging GIF images and playing ASCII games.

    One thing I don't see is IRC, which I think also played a very significant role in creating online communities.

    ^Wow I thought BBS only started in the 90s!

    I started using the internet in the mid 90s. Back then very few people had an internet connection and it still cost P1/min or P2000 for unlimited usage. ICQ makes me feel nostalgic too. lol.

    My friend started in 1987 but at that time I wasn't into BBSes yet. We were in high school then and I was more interested with programming. But, after discovering what the BBS allowed you to do, I was hooked!

    Yup, at that time, Mozcom was the major player among Philippine ISPs. Then came Pacific Internet, other ISPs, then prepaid internet access cards, whew! Ah, those old days when owning a 28.8 Kbps modem put you on the cutting edge while everyone else were using 14.4 Kbps modems, hehehe!
