Catholic or not, this is a piece of history destroyed. It survived all world wars and natural disasters, only to burn now

Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in on fire, with Parisians taking to social media to share devastating photographs of the historic building engulfed in flames.

Smoke and fire can be seen billowing from the upper part of the iconic cathedral, which is the most visted monument in the city of Paris.

The fire appears to be substantial, with heartbroken witnesses describing ash falling from the religious building and flames rising from between the two bell towers.

The area surrounding the gothic cathedral is reportedly being cleared, according to a spokesperson from the police department.

Notre Dame Cathedral has stood since 1260, having been modified in the centuries since. It has provided inspiration for writers such as Victor Hugo and is one of the most culturally significant and instantly recognisable buildings in the world.

The gravity of this situation is not yet understood. A spokesperson from the fire department has described the fire as having begun on the afternoon of April 15, and there is now a major operation under way.

There is no official word as of yet as to what started the fire. It is understood that scaffolding was recently erected around the building, with renovation work having been underway.

It is believed the fire was started accidentally, with no indication that it was started deliberately.

Our thoughts are with the people of Paris as they watch flames leap from this beautiful and irreplaceable building.

Right in the midst of a major renovation, such a shame.

Maybe it will be better now though, they can rebuild it to withstand a few more centuries.

It's an 800+ yr old structure that withstood wars, natural disasters, plagues kaya sad din. Manila isn't even in the same planet as Paris in terms of beauty and culture kaya siguro walang paki mga tao hahaha!

I'd like to think that people do feel sad, Notre Dame probably reminded them of good memories travelling in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I don't get the relevance kaya parang humbrag talaga.

But if you have memories there and you feel sad.
That is called social proof , in socmed basics.

Me, i dont feel sad. There was something eerie in that place when I went there. Parang trapped negative energy, sctually it had gargoyles sa mga posts and door entrances , though at that time I never did understand the importance of gargoyles in medieival society

Can you explain social proof to me? Ako kasi attached at emotional ako sa unang panahon, for example the 80s and 90s kasi it reminds me of my childhood and teens which I really enjoyed kasi complete pa kami (lahat buhay pa) Kaya pag may lugar na luma tapos gigibain, nalulugkot ako kasi parang memories lost.

I have cassette tapes and CDS pa nga

Social proof is like when juts asks me to post a photo of my condo tapos nagpapaliguy ligoy me, that means wala ako social proof. So wala rin sya social proof . How do we really know kung living room pala yun ng cousin nya
