PNP probes army official who found plastic bag with RDX
The army official who turned over a plastic containing RDX from the blast site at an upscale mall in Makati City will be investigated by authorities to determine if the evidence was planted.
Major Allan Sollano, a major with the Philippine Army’s Explosive and Ordnance Division reportedly gave the plastic bag he found at the Glorietta 2 mall blast site to the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) allegedly for examination.
The plastic bag which contained traces of RDX was reportedly retrieved at the first floor of the mall.
RDX is an ingredient in bomb-making that can be found in different kinds of explosives such as C4 and TNT. It is also found on deodorants and make-up’s police said.
The initial discovery prompted the National Security Council in its meeting last Saturday to announce that it found traces of RDX at Glorietta 2. The NSC later retracted its statement when bomb experts discovered no traces of RDX at the mall and has strong theory that the incident was an accident.
Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres Jr., Army spokesman said Sollano’s group was the first to respond to the incident and cannot be interviewed.
"Sa loob ng Glorietta 2 nakahanap siya ng isang bagay na itinurn over niya sa Philippine National Police," Torres said.
Torres said Sollano is an experienced bomb technician when asked how he found the plastic among the other things that littered on the blast site.
He added that Sollano removed the plastic bag from the crime scene so he can immediately turn it over to the crime laboratory for examination.
"Iyung mga experts sa EOD they know what to find. Sa aming palagay na iyung nakuha niya sa loob at inilabas niya sinubmit niya for testing sa Philippine National Police," said Torres.
He also denied allegations that the plastic was planted and defended that Sollano should be commended for being one of the first to respond to the incident.
"We commend him kasi he was among the first ones who responded after the blast," he said.
i suppose, it's ok for empty nest syndrome owners who do not drive to farther-flung areas. ......
