Kaya nga wala na kabuluhan ang mga strike ngayun na ganyan, kasi ang unang nasa isip rin ng mga driver, kapag may strike, mas mamrai sila makukuha na pasahero, di na rin uso ngayun yung kukuyugin ka dahil walang pakisama hehee..

As bad as things are, it could get worse after lunch...coz the general rule is that, unless commuters suffer, the strike isn't successful.

June 19th, 2014 10:28 AM #14i'm puzzled why MMDA deployed dump trucks instead of buses. It's not like we can stack commuters on top of each other like wood.
Meanwhile in past administrations, buses were used as barricades to block protesters
Shouldn't the MMDA/LTFRB/etc have some authority to "commandeer" buses? i.e. force bus companies to deploy at least a few buses? Siyempre yung sweldo ng bus & conductor, plus fuel sagot na ng government.

Transport groups to hold protest caravan on Thursday

MANILA - Transport groups have come together to protest the Joint Administrative Order by the transportation department and its attached agencies.
On Thursday, the Department of Transportation and Communicatons (DOTC), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will implement the order that introduces heftier fines for franchise violations, among other provisions.
Transport groups Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON), Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO), and Stop and Go Coalition are planning to hold a protest caravan on Thursday.
They will stage their protest as they move from the Quezon Memorial Circle en route to the LTO, LTFRB and DOTC.
According to some groups, some of their members are voluntarily not plying their respective routes on Thursday because of fear of getting caught by enforcers through different violations such as broken tail lights, pick and drop zones, among others.
According to Stop and Go Coalition's June Magno, the operators have asked the drivers to continue their respective routes on Thursday, but the drivers told them that they would rather stay home. Some are even joining the protest caravan, Magno said.
The groups are also protesting the increase in penalties, with one asking the DOTC why some of the penalties cost more than a brand new car.
ACTO's Efren de Luna, meanwhile, said the administrative order should not be implemented due to lack of consultation by the agency with the transport sector.

MMDA ready for transport protest actions

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will mobilize its traffic personnel to help ensure peace and order in tomorrow’s transport actions to be staged by several groups opposing the implementation of higher fines for operators of colorum vehicles.
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino, who also sits as head of the Presidential Task Force on Transport Strikes and Mass Actions (TRASMA), said the MMDA will deploy all necessary personnel to aid motorists and commuters who would be affected by the protests.
"We are ready to provide additional vehicles for ‘Libreng Sakay’ to serve the commuters,” Tolentino said.
He also encouraged the public to use the Pasig River ferry service as an alternate mode of transportation.
"We recognize the transport groups’ right to voice their grievances but this should not affect nor greatly inconvenience the rights of the greater majority to conduct their daily business as protected likewise by the general welfare clause of the Constitution," he added.
Tolentino said he had been briefed by Police Director Carmelo Valmoria, chief of the National Capital Regional Police Office about the police’s contingency measures for tomorrow.

The Stop and Go Coalition, an umbrella organization of several transport operators, said it has 14,000 members who are expected to participate in what they called "voluntary" transport protests.
The transport caravan will assemble at the Quezon City Memorial Circle before proceeding to the offices of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board along East Avenue and the Department of Transportation and Communications in Pasig City.
Tolentino said MMDA's role is to monitor the transport caravan and the routes it is expected to take to ensure that no commuters will be stranded and traffic flow will remain unhampered.
The agency's vehicles, especially buses and trucks, will also be placed on standby to ferry stranded commuters if needed, as well as emergency units such as ambulances.
"We will be fielding extra number of traffic personnel along the caravan’s routes to keep vehicular traffic moving," Tolentino said, calling the commuters to monitor the MMDA’s websites and Facebook and Twitter accounts for continuous traffic advisories and updates.
Under the DOTC-LTFRB Joint Administrative Order, franchise-less public utility jeeps now stand to pay a fine of P50,000.
Offenders using motorcycles will shell out P6,000; sedans, P120,000; vans, P200,000; trucks, P200,000; and buses, up to P1 million.

June 19th, 2014 09:06 AM #19Let them protest, they if they don't have any illegal activities then no need to fear. It's time to discipline the drivers and mototrists alike. Next time they should also impose a hefty fine on "jaywalking" too for they also cause traffic and accidents.
