In my opinion, most of the waiters and other types of similar staff don't care about their jobs. Most of the time, they either lack training or are not interested in what they're doing making them inefficient. When I ask for a recommendation, the last thing I'd want to hear is that it's the restaurant's best-seller and if I'm dining at an upscale reataurant, I expect the waiters to at least know the food on the menu. I base my tip depending on the level of service they give so if they give me poor service, then I don't give them much.
