Resolution filed to commend Jessica Sanchez
    By: Carla P. Gomez

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—Bacolod Representative Anthony Golez, Jr. has filed House Resolution No. 2446 congratulating and commending Jessica Sanchez for landing second in the 11th season of “American Idol.”

Sanchez, who traces her roots to Bataan, got positive comments from American Idol judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson all throughout the competition and was even “saved” by the same judges when she was about to be eliminated, Golez said.

“Sanchez has caught the attention and support of millions of Filipinos here in the Philippines and abroad because of her superb voice and amazing performances in the 11th Season of American Idol,” he said.

“I am truly proud of Jessica Sanchez. I hope that her second place win would propel her to even higher heights in the entertainment industry. The entire Philippines should be proud that a future superstar that will conquer the international music scene has Filipino heritage,” Golez added.

As much as American Idol is a nice show to watch new talents... our local politicians should not waste taxpayers time and money on things like this. Congress has a long list of more important bills of law to approve that can improve the country.

The congressman who filed this bill and those who backs this should be taken out to the courtyard and given 21 lashes each! Grrrr!

Kahit mga runner-ups binibigyan ng parangal. Sucess of any kind is few and far between kasi.

Every LOCAL news item about AI NEVER FORGETS to add that she's better than Philips. That even if she lost, she has "many music producers" lining up on her front door. Paulit-ulit lang parang sirang plaka...

Bandwagon effect kuno. But honestly JS still has a moutain to overcome to equal the success of Charice Bubblehead. She will a better chance if she start using her Chicano roots and sing Spanish.

The repeatedly pointed fact by local media that AI runner-up's career do fare better than some winners forgot to point out that they are either white or black Americans. Rarely do you see chicano talents find success in mainstream white America.

Migrant rights group demands ‘American Idol’ vote tally
    By Nimfa U. Rueda
    Los Angeles Correspondent
    5:23 pm | Saturday, May 26th, 2012

LOS ANGELES, California – A non-profit group promoting migrant rights asked the producer of “American Idol” on Friday (Saturday in Manila) to reveal how many votes were cast for each of the top two finalists “in the spirit of transparency and public trust.”

“We deserve to know the entire process, including the information as to how the board of auditors conduct(ed) the tallying of scores,” said the Washington DC-based Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC) in a letter to Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of the top-rated reality singing competition.

MHC demanded a tally of the record-breaking 132 million votes cast by phone, text and online for Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez of California and Phillip Phillips of Georgia.

The letter, dated May 25, was signed by MHC executive directors Arnedo Valera, Grace Valera-Jaramillo and Jesse Gatchalian.

Phillips won “American Idol” on Wednesday, becoming the fifth male singer in a row to take the title and a guaranteed recording contract. He beat Sanchez, who was thought to have the edge after dominating social media and Twitter mentions in the last few days.

MHC, a nonprofit organization that promotes cultural diversity, actively campaigned for Sanchez.
