For the ESi:
Surplus power window motors/gear teeth and rear strut tower brace
Surplus headlight assembly (right) and bumpers (front-right wreck due to collision)
Surplus right tail light.
Brand new wouldn't look good because it wouldn't match the older left tail light. I didn't want to buy 2 brand new tail lights as the left one was still good so I opted for surplus.
Better get a quality surplus lalo na kung di naman related sa engine rather than getting a cheap replacement.
for lancer itlog,
left tail light (same reason with cathy),
auto tranny,
inside door handle cups,
and dohc 4g63t engine. . .i wish hehhe

2 surplus engines and countless parts thru the years
did 2 engine swaps on a lancer -- 4G63T and 4G63
wrecked the turbo engine after 2 years of fun smoking SiRs hehe
threw out the 4G63T and dropped in a non-turbo 4G63
sold the car later
i love 4G63s
yes. bought hazard light switch. also got a surplus a.c. compressor more 5 years ago. still working perfectly.
To answer the question, yes.
When your is vehicle is old, surplus is probably the only option you have.
Used to buy lots of surplus stuff.
In some cases, it's good, but it's a crapshoot. Sometimes, you can spend so much time going back and forth replacing stuff with (also defective) surplus that you could have simply bought new in the first place!
With that in mind, nowadays, I usually buy brand new, but I shop around for good prices and don't skimp on the brand of replacement. But if need be, I will buy surplus... for pieces like hubcaps, wheels, trim, door handles, etcetera, surplus is definitely okay.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
yup, mostly for the non-essential parts. but for the major parts like compressor etc. all brand new

I buy a lot of surplus parts for my cars, but usually its the non critical parts like tail lights, body parts, trimmings and a host of other small things. Actually I almost both a pair of surplus signal lights for my MB w140 body, but I was quoted 3k for a pair while a new OEM part costs P4.2k for the pair, i opted for the new ones.
Just side mirrors and rubber trims that got destroyed in accidents. Stuff most of the time the casa doesn't keep in stock. On really old cars most of the time I try to get decent quality brand new replacement part. For parts like radiators and shocks.
