A FORMER congressman and actor was arrested with at least nine other people for the alleged kidnapping of a three-year-old scion of a wealthy Chinese family who was rescued in Quezon City Saturday night.
Dennis Roldan, Quezon City third district representative from 1992 to 1995, and the nine other suspects are now detained in Camp Crame police headquarters, said police intelligence director Robert Delfin who also heads the Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (PACER) team.

“As per report from PACER, I’m confirming that Dennis Roldan has been arrested during [a] police operation,” Senior Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil told INQ7.net in a phone interview, though he declined to give additional details.

Roldan, a former actor who portrayed mainly villain roles, allegedly masterminded the abduction of the boy two weeks ago, Delfin said.

His group initially demanded at least 250 million pesos in exchange for the boy’s release, Delfin said.

The boy was with his nanny, Shirley Gontine, in front of a restaurant when unidentified men on board a Honda CR-V with plate number XDU-148 blocked their path and forcibly took the victim, earlier police reports said.

Before he shot to fame as an actor, Roldan played for the Gilbey's Gin team at the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in the 1980s.

He was elected Quezon City councilor in 1988 and congressman of the city's third district in 1992. His failed to win a third term as representative in 1998 when he lost to now environment secretary Michael Defensor.

Roldan was last seen on television challenging a security guard at a construction site to a fist fight.
