Yikes, I just bought an Akari portable rechargeable light
last month sa ACE. Its the cheapest kasi at P450 lang.
Well this teaches me a lesson that its not always wise
to buy cheap especially if it compromises one's safety.![]()

we only use philips at home. sawa na kami sa cheaper brands, dali mamatay, 3-4 months lang.
sir silhouette,
try to contact CARLSON TRADING, exculsive distributor of akari, toshiba and osram, check this site http://www.carlsonphil.com
had replaced all of our 32-watt circular FL with an akari T5 mini FL, it's a compact mini FL..
pros:
no more audible sound from the ballast
instant LIGHT, no blinking
brighter than 'old' circular lamp
available in 32, 20 and 10 watts
pros:
must install incandescent lamp socket
available only ace megamall, and true value shangri-la *last month
buti na lang ganun lang nangyari sir. ang dami pa namang flamable materials sa background.
I would stay away from GE. Brought a GE cfl from shopwise, works well when tested in the store. Went home, installed the cfl. After 1-2 hrs, the bnew GE cfl already dimmed (80% dimmed) Brought the cfl to shopwise and asked for a replacement. Got the Philips one instead. Its still working now.
I think some of you guys are overreacting.lalo na yung tila mag-hahalf day para palitan yung akari bulbs hehe. In any case i do agree that Philips, Osram GE and the other big boys do make higher quality products, but that doesnt mean that all Akari bulbs are instant time bombs.
Malaki ang difference ng GE/Philips sa mga "generic" brands.
I bought an Akari 23watt bulb before, less than P150. The GE or Philips was retailing in excess of P300. But the bulb didn't last more than 3 months yata, less than 4 hours in operation per day lang naman.
Normally, GE talaga kami, kaya lang may GE akong binili na bumigay din after less than 6 months, eh more than P400 yung bili ko.
Next time siguro, Osram bibilhin ko.
*vtec. hindi naman nag trip yung breaker bro. so hanggang bulb lang ang damage.
*BB. the wash area is well ventilated naman. The old bulbs did last naman.
*theveed. i agree with the mishandling. I do handle bulbs naman sa ceramic/plastic part of it.
I am surprised that there are others who experienced the same fate (sa other sister car forum). It only means that there's really a problem with this product brand.
Thank you sir for the info!
I will really let them know, even Ace Hardware, about this incident so they could check and hopefully do something about their products.
*AnuVaYan. Correct. Yung mga cleaning materials ko sa ride dun lahat nakalagay, including insecticides.
Philips is the leader among these brands ... i have compared specs between GE and Philips for their fluorescent products, and Philips have the upper hand in luminous efficacy ... and yes, although pricier, their lamps tend to last longer.
For CFL exploding, it not unheard of, but it is also rare ... what's more common is simply silent failure ... but when it explodes, it usually the capacitor that does it. The capacitor is constantly subjected to almost 400VDC (form our 230VAC) and lower quality standard could potentially make it a mini-bomb.![]()
