My plan for my next years project- a fiberglass or better still a carbon fiber bootlid...Have anyone done a similar project? Any inputs (materials/ cost)? Thanks.

roughly the cost ng fiberglass (if DIY) ay P130/kg (mahigit 2 sqm na yun...enough for your project). Resin ratio is 3:1 fiberglass...thus you'll need 3kg polyester resin and harderner (flexi and heat-protected dapat) siguro nasa P150/kg yun so P450 na.
you will also need a layer of Gelcoat (probably 1kg is enough or baka sobra pa nga) and component harderner - roughly P175/kg.
so if you have mold na - that would be P130 + P450 + P175 roughly = P755 na.
if you don't have a mold you'll probably spend 3 to 4 times nyan pa to do the mold (5 to 8 layers kasi dapat ang mold para matibay.
kung i-carbon fiber mo yan, carbon fiber is about P4500/sqm.
Sir,
Also, how do you get the weaved effect?
Thank You!

Maraming branches sila, nasa Pasig ang main (11 J. Borris St, Ugong Pasig) this is along C-5 after the overpass bridge from Kalayaan/Fort.
For details, google their company name...merun silang website.
The resin is semi liquid state (and the MEKP or hardener). It solidifies after 20mins or more pagpinaghalo mo or through time (can't keep the raw mat more than 2 or 3 months). Mas madali pa kaysa sa epoxy magmix nito - a plastic cup and a wooden stirrer is all you need basically.
Several videos are in You Tube (including what I uploaded) - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TvYrCgtf54"]YouTube - PPI Fiberglass Making[/ame]
Advance discussions - search mo yung gawa ng "GO FAST FIBERGLASS"
Maraming available weave design - common nga lang yung chopped mat or "no weave"
Thanks for the input, wildthing bro. will try on a moldless one. ........![]()
masarap na project yan kasi maliit lang... kaso it is difficult to make a mold from the original metal hood... kasi baka magalos mo ito when separating the mold na.
W O W ! great info, wildthing bro. while I was posting eh meron ka rin palang ipinost. Thank you so much!

I have cut the back panel of the other car para nga to send it there but then plano ko muna na ifiberglass ung part na un.unti-unti ko ng binabaklas nga....hirap lang kasi dahil sa work. uy..sige nga ,padala ka ng pics..T.Y.....my vision is a full fiberglass shell![]()
BTW, Speedwell Auto in TS Cruz Las Pinas/ Alabang recently made a full fiberglass bodied mini convertible ala targa look. Check out the guy, Onaks Mojica.
kapatid na rey,
good idea to keep in touch with Onaks, he can be reached thru his cel #0921 4099047 or u can email him at : speedwellautores*yahoo.com
alternatively, meron din fiberglass repro from original parts si Don Cruz, his cel 09178579366.
ok ito at least, wala ng matrikulahan o trial and error. we can see first hand mga produkto.
KEEP IT UP, fellow mini mates.
My fantasy is a fiberglass shell plus vtec engine (sorry A-series fans).
Where is Robin Clark these days? Can anyone comment on his PMC Mini? One Mini (original metal body) owner I spoke to considered the PMC Mini more of a kit car, not a real Mini. Another guy who was selling his PMC Mini told me it was a lemon.
PMC (Philippine Mini Corporation)
They were the ones behind the Local fabrication of the mini fiber glass back in the early 90"s. It was headed by Mr. Robin Clark, a British Nationale who brought in Surplus and a few brandnew stuff for the minis. They named their mini as "Mini Del Rei". A few units were though sold but unfortunately the company collapsed due to economical reasons. A few comments on the fiberglass mini is that matibay nga sya pero its thrice the weight of the original mini since they had to build a tubular frame to hold everything together and yung pinaka fiber shell is about 1/8 inches in thickness. the only thing na hindi fiberglass sa body duon sa mini Del Rei are the doors.
We were able to produce 2 sets kaya lang hindi namin masyado ma perfect yung sa hood kasi nagkakaroon ng bubbles after gamitin a few months. Yung sa trunk walang problema, probably its the heat of the engine bay or lack of technical knowhow in mixing the resin kaya nagkaganuon.
ahh ...PMC (layo ng intindi ko) How I wish I could see one of those PMC Mini. Thanks, sir Batman for the info. sana maperfect nyo na yang fiber hood-good Luck!
