Not a good morning for fans of Top Gear.
Just saw the news flash on TV ... Top Gear co-host Richard Hammond critically injured because of a crash involving a jet-powered car, while filming for Top Gear in an ex-RAF air base. He was flown to a hospital in Leeds. Reports said he suffered head injuries from the crash.
Not much details for now.

September 21st, 2006 08:08 AM #6LONDON -- Richard Hammond, a presenter for the BBC's "Top Gear" automobile television series, was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday in critical condition after being involved in an accident, the BBC said.
The 36-year-old television presenter was filming for the program at a disused airfield in York, central England, when the accident happened.
A BBC spokeswoman provided few details saying only: "The incident happened quite recently and the focus of our attention is on Richard at this stage."
Inspector Mike Thompson of the local police force said that police had received a report at about 5:45 pm (1645 GMT) of a "male person trapped in what was described as an overturned jet car which had been driven on the airfield."
The police officer said the occupant had received "serious injuries".
Hammond was airlifted to a hospital in nearby Leeds.

September 22nd, 2006 12:49 AM #14As announced in BBC news, the little, funny third of the Top Gear commentators suffered a massive crash driving a 300 mph dragster on an airstrip. Having lost control, the vehicle headed to the grass, tumbling several times. But thanks to the roll cage, he's miraculously alive. He's now in Leeds Hospital with serious injuries but in stable condition. His wife is constantly with him, and fellow presentors Jeremy Clarkson and James May wish for "The Hamster" to be back soon.
