Filipino Christian group protests Lady Gaga shows

MANILA, Philippines—About 70 Christian youths in the Philippines have chanted “Stop the Lady Gaga concerts” at a rally calling for the singer’s shows in Manila next week to be cancelled.

Members of a group called Biblemode Youth Philippines said Friday that they are offended by Lady Gaga’s music and videos, in particular her song “Judas,” which they say mocks Jesus Christ.

Protest leader and former Philippine Congressman Ben Abante says his group plans to file a case against Lady Gaga and concert organizers if she sings “Judas” at her Manila gigs Monday and Tuesday.

Former Manila Mayor Jose Atienza says the singer and organizers can be punished for offending race or religion.

Lady Gaga scrapped an Indonesia concert following protests there from conservative Muslims.

Personalities, youth group push Pasay govt to stop Lady Gaga concert

Personalities and a youth group on Friday urged the Pasay City government not to allow the concert of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, a.k.a. Lady Gaga, at the SM Mall of Asia this weekend.

Former Manila mayor Jose Atienza Jr. and election lawyer Romulo Macalintal sought an audience with Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto to disallow the concert because of what they claimed was the singer's "anti-Christian" songs.

Atienza pushed for the arrest of the singer if they hear her sing, according to a report by radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad.

Macalintal added Lady Gaga's concerts in other countries like Indonesia did not push through, supposedly due to religious reasons.

On the other hand, a group of youths allied with former Rep. Benny Abante held a rally at city hall, scoring Lady Gaga and urging the city government not to allow the concert.

The youths from Biblemode Youth Philippines also vowed to hold another protest against the concert on Saturday, the report said.

The youth group particularly scored the controversial singer-artist for her song "Judas," which they said mocks Jesus Christ and promotes Judas Iscariot as a protagonist. — LBG, GMA News
