Jessica Sanchez, the first runner-up of this year's "American Idol," will be singing the American national anthem during the upcoming fight of Saranggani Rep. and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao against Timothy Bradley in the United States on June 9 (June 10 in the Philippines).
On her Twitter account on Wednesday, Filipino-Mexican-American Sanchez, 16, said: “Singing the American National Anthem * the Pacquiao fight this Saturday in Vegas! I am sooooooooo ecstatic!!”
On her Facebook page, Sanchez said: "Singing the national anthem this saturday in Vegas for the Pacquiao fight so excited!!!! Btw, miss you guys♥"
On his blog, ESPN boxing writer Dan Rafael also said Sanchez will be singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, another Filipino-American — Broadway star Kirby Asunto — will be singing the Philippine national anthem during the World Welterweight title fight, according to entertainment blog Ayan Deato In Random.
Sanchez and Asunto will be performing before a live audience of over 16,000, aside from the millions worldwide who will be viewing the match through pay-per-view, based on estimates of the boxing site Phil Boxing.

Viewing figures are down, down, down... The finals had the lowest ratings ever for a finale despite the huge vote-boosting that was going on.

Ni hindi nga siya proud maging Pilipino eh. Sobrang nakakainis yung mga "kababayan" daw ni Jessica sa Samar ba yun. Hello ni hindi nga kayo kilala niyan eh. And the goddamn plea by the CBCP to pray/vote for her? Madness.

June 7th, 2012 12:23 AM #12so what? she's more american than pinoy anyway. just because she isn't white doesn't mean she's not american. she grew up there, speaks their language the way americans do, adopted the culture and traits of americans. besides her being half filipina, she doesn't have anything filipino in her. if you think a half pinoy who never set foot in the philippines and don't even know our culture would choose to represent us over where they were born and raised then i'd say you are dumb.

Sobrang nakakairita yung mga tanong ng Phil. media reporters na nagpunta ng California at umattend ng presscon ni Jessica. Papansin na huy taga Philippine media kami dun lumaki nanay mo, anong message mo sa mga pinoy na todo suporta sayo? Dafuq.
