It is testament to the durability of this car that it is still running at all.

IMHO oil change for your car will not be very expensive since 1.3 lang and will not require lots of oil. Even the cheapest variety will suffice. Matatagalan pa lalo ang survival ng sasakyan mo, and therefore also time to save up, before overhaul becomes inevitable.

parts are readily available for this car.
All i need daw is to prepare the 'budget'
Have an oil change na muna. Sobrang tagal na 5 years. 4liters lang naman ata yan or 3.5ltrs. Less than P200 per liter na multigrade pwede na. Tsaka oil filter mo rin at air filter palitan.

Ramdam mo ang difference ng takbo niyan for sure.

yes, 3.5liters. thanks for additional info. bro! I will have the engine oil changed today to prolong engine life while saving for overhaul expenses.
fyi, havn't been using air filter sa carb nito. ceased from using it 10 years ago for fuel economy, no bad effect sa carb. city driving lng nmn and minimum road dust. planning on using air filter again after overhaul.

Sorry mga Bro! now, i realised na masyado ko atang tinipid ang ride ko for daily commute.
I am now enlightened. Thanks for all the feedback and comments

Toyota should probably pick up your story to advertise how sturdy their engines can be!

In our 1997 Granvia, I have had lots of work done on the A/C system (general cleaning, replaced cooling coil, compressor overhaul, and repairs on the control module), brake system (replaced rear drum assembly and brake master cylinder) and suspension (replaced steering rack, front upper and lower arms, shocks, stabilizer links, tie rod ends and rear coil springs). Lately I have been hearing a loud groan sometimes when full-on turning upon heavy throttle or aslant on an incline which I suspect may be one of the stab links failing again.

At 22 years/180tkms, this is currently our oldest and thirstiest (4-5 city 8-9 highway) vehicle. However the engine and transmission have never failed us, and pulls strongly even by today's standards. After the major works mostly done immediately after acquisition in 2016, it also turned out to be the cheapest to maintain. Total maintenance cost last 2018 turned out less than 20k, a mere fraction of the Santa Fe and Carnival's.

    We've been very busy.....

I still have my 2006 Hyundai Sonata 3.3L V6. It's almost at 204k miles (328k kilometers). The wife hates it. The kids hate it. I don't care. It's like a loyal mule to me.

Our kid now has the 2013 Nissan Rogue. At 76k miles, I worry about the CVT although the car is still fine. I'll be happy if I get 13 years out of that car without having to replace the CVT

The wife? Well, we quit the minivan thing. So, I got her a 2019 Camry SE. Quite a nice car plus no CVT, no turbo. We were going to buy the car last year (I mean 2017). But, one of the techs said Apple Car Play will be included for 2019 models. So, we waited.

A shame this generation of Sonata sold poorly here. From that picture, your car looks like it is 3 years old rather than 13 years old. And that Camry! If only such colors are available in Philippine Toyotas! But no... We get the beige, the brown, the silver...

Our "loyal mule" is actually the 1997 Granvia. It does the market runs, gets packed with roofing sheets, multiple boxes of ceramic tiles, bags of cement, heavy wooden furniture, a washing machine... It is also sometimes borrowed by relatives who are moving house. To top it all off, it still serves as one of the family daily drivers which runs at least 5 days a week and is easily maintained by the company forklift operator/mechanic. [emoji16]

I bought the Sonata back in 2005 as a 2006 model. It's almost 14 years old. It's been at hot deserts, -40C winters, downpours, dust storms, halfway buried in snow. It even slammed into a deer one night (at the 100,000 miles mark), wrecking the front totally and probably sustained hidden stress damage. My youngest kid somehow destroyed the passenger side sun visor and all 4 overhead grab handles, not to mention causing a number of dents and scratches at the exterior. It still runs okay although I'm starting to hear noises where there used to be none. So, I have to baby it more now.

What is your ride?
