thanks. yes, the quest is over. last night, wife and i took home a 2005 Nissan Quest SL. these were dealer ad pics:

vq, 5 spd auto, adjustable pedals, hard to find red leather, bose, dvd, power door and hatch, backup sonar, etc. nearly 60k miles and we got it below trade in value. my wife is comfy since we know ahead the fixes needed soon as we get it.

elvie is in the shop now getting new tires, brake service, and a few other basic things. drives well so far, just longer than what i expected . next, possible wiring or bose amp fix.

Damn... a sea of red leather... sure they didn't accidentally deliver a seven seat 350Z to you?

Which car does this one replace?

i guess since it has a vq, i can claim a seven seater Z . some of my fx mods might fit this (i have an extra intake somewhere). it doesnt replace any car, though the yaris has to be sold asap and i lowered the price to sell. now the quest is our family car, not the fx.

yes french, a valentine thingy for my family. i told my wife im done with her valentine, anniv, bday, etc. all of them naturally rejected.

still waiting for shop to call me, finishing with tires. next, extra key (dealer offered me free programming) and audio fix. hope i can finish everything by end of this week before i go back to work.

Now why can't I get a Valentine's gift like that? Maybe I should ask my wife...

Now the FX can be preserved as your personal toy, I suppose?

the fx will be my daily car once the yaris is sold. though im looking ahead and may consider selling if and only if i do not use it that much anymore. if so, i plan to get a used g35, m45 (v8), or q45 (v8 and gattling gun hid).

i went for a slightly wider hankook optimo h727 and what a difference it made vs generic tires. very smooth and quiet. also got a pair of keys via dealership after waiving programming costs of about $115.

dealership did a quick check on the sound system and they think that the bose amp is dead ($500+ if new). an audio repair shop thinks the amp is ok since faint sound is present, and the problem maybe on the stereo instead. ill find out tomorrow. i might consider aftermarket if cost will be about the same and if it works without much modifications. next, interior detail and disinfection .

thanks. been to 4 shops so far and it got compliments on the interior everytime. even some nissan staff didnt know the red/black interior on the quest.

the quest now has sounds . i finally found a shop that repairs stereo and the guy was straightforward with the possibilities and the cost (not cheap) to fix it. after taking apart most of the dash panel, trying out the bose amp and stereo, it turns out the pc board on the stereo had corrosion on a small corner. a little cleaning and replacing a resistor and about 3.5 hours later, the volume started working. what a relief. one more thing to go, fix the stuck button on the dvd player or try with a remote.

so far so good. this thing can do easy 50mph on the city streets and 80mph on the freeway. if my fx is a g35 with a backpack, the quest is a maxima with a "backcave" .

wheels will be much later (or never )

i drove it home from the dealer about 40 miles straight, no ac, and pull 28mpg! it even peaked 32mpg during the drive. now city short drives with cargo and ac most of the time 12.7mpg.

cleaned and conditioned the leather one night and nearly took 2 hours with matching back pain. more detailing to go such as the ceiling marks and plastic shine removal. paint is in bad shape and will get an estimate too.

The Nissan Quest is a good family minivan.... It has been in the US market for a while now.... I remember driving my friend's Quest in the early 2000s(?).... Good value for money....

my fx does 11 city 18 fwy the way i drive it. always fun though

this van pulls like my 95 maxima and feels heavy like the qx56 i borrowed one time. though no exhaust note, there is a nice hum on the engine.

looks like i have something to look into that may turn out to be major - rust. somehow, the seat rails and other interior (unpainted) metal are rusted. i did check history on carfax and autocheck and both came out clean. everything else seem original and clean. the engine bay looks original as well. the fact that there is a tow hitch tells me the previous owner own a small boat and may have this van parked next to the waters a lot. i guess, the red leather made it harder to see the rust when wife and i inspected the van.

im getting my body shop check this and also looking into any rust treatment products i can use. anyone with experience or expertise on this, feel free to chime in.

after a little planning and deciding to use a ladder, i finally cleaned this big thing. for the first time, i used optimum no rinse mixed with klasse aio and was pleased with the outcome even if the paint is dull and scratched up. now im thinking of learning how to paint and fix scratches and using an orbital polisher. i changed my mind about to repaint after i cleaned it:

family and i just moved to a house for the first time and this van came in very handy. we used the quest to load things we like to move ourselves. also, i used the quest for the last remaining items in the apartment. on one trip, i got 5 dining chairs, a utility cart, small items in bags, and i think a mountain bike with one of the middle captain chairs and rear seats folded down. also, this is too big for me to maintain along with the other cars, so i give up on cleaning it myself.

the quest is in the shop now getting 60k service. wish that was it but i was informed the later on, it needs new bushings on the control arm and a front engine mount. problem with the bushing is that nissan sells the entire control arm only. the arms cost an arm, and the labor costs a leg . the mount and control arms will cost about 1K altogether. ill consider buying the bushing instead (aftermarket only), though cheap, but labor may cost more.

I love how the old Quest look like. Almost bought one back in 2005 but my wife told me to stick with our van.
