i have a 2011 mazda 3 svp. just recently i heard a woo woo owl like sound coming from the vehicle. it happened after a 100 km ride. when i parked the vehicle and turned the engine off, minutes or hours later it makes a weird sound, a long woo and a short one and goes on and on in intervals of a minute or less. it happened 4 times already on different occasions. im so bothered about it. lately im having a goosebumps re it especially when driving at night thinking i have a paranormal passenger inside my car. do you have similar incidents like this? tnx.

If it's intermittent, it could be somehow connected to the A/C (compressor or fan motor).

As engine cools down, metal compress leaving a gap between other components in contact that could release a trapped gas. Fluids also compress creating a vacuum pressure.

Check for the possible source of leaking gas or fluids like:
    - waterpump, radiator, cap, coolant that needs bleeding or have some leak
    - cylinder head possible worn seals
    - Fuel tank relief valve, fuel pump
    - vacuum pump
    - brake booster and cylinder
    - PS pump, rack
    - tires (maybe)
Check for leaks or abnormal decrease in your fluids, replace fluids if its due for replacement, inspect for signs of wear like corrossion or murky fluids..

Its the exhaust cooling off. Tik tik sound could be generated by compression of:

    - The exhaust manifold itself
    - seals used in the exhaust a sort of bi-metal seal
    - heat shield of the manifold

Most of the time its from the heat shields on cars, for bikes its from the seals and mounting bolts.

Use the good ol garden hose (like a stethoscope) to find where the sound is coming from. Just be very careful of moving parts (even if engine off, baka i start ng mumoo ) or very hot parts (i.e. Exhaust manifold). Did you try to pop the hood while it is making that owl sound?

Weird! But I myself also experience this one on my car, occasionally after engine shut down, minsan naman kahit matagal nang patay ang makina. Its imperceptible with the radio on. It sounds like a series of (kadalasan tatlo magkakasunod) prolonged faint utots lols...Pero its closer to the sound of a dvd player when loading/reading a disc on it.

I don't know if this helps, but everytime before i turn off my engine itry to rev up atleast 2000rpm (thingking i should blow the exhaust gases still trapped inside) please correct me if im wrong. thanks.
