What are you looking for in a car?

Mazda 2 has PROS and its CONS... So depending on what you are looking for it might be for you and it might not be...

How about the new Accent 1.4L you could consider that. The Vios while very boring is also arguably the most fuel efficient in its class...

The hatchback is the most fun to drive in the segment at the moment... but it lags the best (the Fiesta and Jazz) in terms of cargo space and lags the Fiesta in terms of refinement. (though it has better plastic and interior fitment than the Fiesta).

In terms of the experience... comfort... ergonomics... etcetera... it's easily one of the better hatchbacks available.

The 1.3 is really frugal. The 1.5 AT is as good as Toyota's 1.5 AT. Toyota may have the better engine, but the lightness and tight gearing of the Mazda2 make it just as economical.

There is no 1.5 MT hatch... which is a shame... as that would be just about perfect.

    There isn't a M/T Mazda 2 1.5R available locally. You'll be limited to A/T if you really want a 1.5L hatch, so I'm guessing you're interested in the entry-level M/T 1.3L model.

I own the 1.5L sedan, and it's a hoot to drive! The engine is far from class-leading, but the transmission is perfectly mated, and it's really light. This and the "Sport" mode make accelerating and overtaking a breeze. If you love sitting behind the wheel, you'll definitely have fun with the driving dynamics. (Attacking corners are addicting!)

If you go for the 1.3L, the only things you'll miss are foglamps, the 15" alloy wheels, and the leather trim on the steering wheel + the controls. Yes, it's all-power and retains the top model's ABS and airbags. Not bad for 685k.

Here's a short write-up of what the alternatives have that the Mazda2 doesn't.

    The competition:

    Toyota Vios:
The Vios has slightly better FE overall, and a wider availability of parts (which is helped by the fact that it's a taxi preference). The comparable 1.3L Vios E M/T is also 685k.

    Honda City:
Roomier than the Mazda 2. The lowest comparable model is the manual 1.3A, at 691k. The 1.3S and 1.5E models have USB audio connectivity - something the M2 lacks.

    Ford Fiesta:
The Mazda 2's cousin. More "toys" inside. The top-of-the-line sport model has steering wheel controls, a talking head-unit, bluetooth, 16" rims, and oodles of other things. For 685k though, you can opt for the 1.4L M/T Trend, which retains the info display and 15" alloy rims.

    Hyundai Accent:
The Accent is bigger than the Mazda 2, and it's all-power entry-level model is 588k - the best bang-for-buck car in this roundup. For 688k though, you get the 1.4L A/T model, which is complete with safety features like ABS, an airbag, and a 2-din head unit with Aux-in and USB.

    ---

If you're more driver than passenger, and you'll be using the car alone most of the time, get the Mazda 2 or the Ford Fiesta. Driving pleasure, for sure! For a family car, I'd say the Vios, City or Accent are better choices due to better rear legroom and convenient features (for the latter two, anyway).

Tingin ko hindi. Vios kasi yung king in terms of frugality & efficiency sa sub-compact category.

But I'm pretty sure the Mazda 2 isn't bad in terms of efficiency, guesstimate would be around 10km/L on light traffic where a Vios can do as much as 12-13km/L

Gusto ko sana yung 1.5L AT Mazda 2. It's said to be very fun to drive kaso una, maliit, tapos walang MT yung 1.5L. Yung 1.3L ok din kaso yun nga maliit. Hehe.
