why don't we ask rotarims or something sa autoindustriya? he's from rota, he might be able to answer that.

here's what rota posted:
"Yes, we do make inspired designs. We also make our original designs as well. Probably, the biggest best seller that was a Rota original was the QUAKE. The REV is also a recent Rota original.
Unfortunately, yung Quake design namin was also copied by Taiwanese, Chinese and some European wheel makers because we were selling a lot of it in export markets.
Actually, it is only here and a little in the States that inspired designs are popular. In our European, Australian,Middle East markets, we mainly sell Rota original designs. Examples would be QUAKE, Style V( Japanese designer comissioned by Rota), Deep Cup etc... So contrary to what is seen in the local market place, the inspired designs are just a small chunk of our total production."
Meron akong nabalitaan sa news about intellectual property rights sabi sa news central ng studio23 hindi pa daw tayo nasa priority list nila.
In terms of copying or imitating the design, those imitators may be made liable for violation of the IPR law. But of course, one can only be legally accused of imitation if another person is complaining about it.
Otherwise, it is no different from purchasing a pirated DVD. As long as there is a market for the imitation and consumers are buying it for a low price and with some degree of quality why bother buying the original?
rota replied na it's different daw from country to country.
try to pm him na lang so we don't have to guess.
IMHO, there's only so much the designers can do to make their rims 100% original. By now almost all the good designs are already taken. Most 'new' designs nowadays are just spin-offs of previous models/designs, from the same brand or otherwise.
Although some people from Rota refer to some of their models as 'replicas' of original, albeit more high-end brands.
Many ROTA replicas are of more expensive wheels. Since they also sell these replicas in the US, I guess there isn't much of a case about it.
As long as they're not branded with the original manufacturer's logo, it should be okay. I'm noticing the new ROTA "copies" don't have "Volk" written on them any more... :P
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
what about build quality? what would be the difference?
same materials ba ang gamit?
hindi materials ang main concern, its the process. Volks uses the technology process called FORGING. Whereas Rota uses CASTING.Originally Posted by dx8976

so it would seem that the rotas would generally be heavier and not as strong?
would it be just as safe for normal driving?
dx8976,
hinde naman sa heavier and not as strong...
from my experience.. orig japan wheels are more lightweight and it will be more prone sa bengkong
i had 16's 5zigen last 3 yrs and it never failed me for its weight but when the potholes came.. ayun.. bumigay... not alike rota.. i had quake before and torque.. my rubber got busted but un rota buhay ba buhay... hidne natin maiiwasan ang mga biglang butas dito sa pinas..
sa rota parin ako... :D pero gamit ko now lenso kasi good price ko nakuha sorbang ingat na lang :D hehehehe
