January 8th, 2012 01:30 AM #2No expert, but I would think that you'd not want to use any form of lubricant on the face of your brakes, as you'd basically be keeping the brakes from the working as designed (stopping the car via friction). I've always found the rust on the face of the discs is pretty much gone after driving a short distance.

The brake pads already scrape rust off of the rotor faces since they're basically solid blocks of sandpaper-like friction material. No need to add anything else.

rust on the disks is normal especially after some rain or driving over a pool of water, or even after washing your car. and as said above the brake pads will rub it off after just a few applications of the brakes. do not spray WD40 or any kind of lubricant as it will affect the friction properties of the brakes and cause longer braking distances, or even failure.

Haha! The Shell service station in Mindanao ave actually uses a WD40 type lubricant to clean the whole brake caliper assembly instead of the commercially available brake cleaners that removes oils and grease in the calipers.
