Not shocking, extraordinary or unprecedented. As noted by this guy in that Lexus forum:

From my limited experience, any panel re-paint for special colors require blending to make it look right. Unless the panels are painted at the same time with the same mix of paint, it won't match even if they have the exact color code. Is there a reason you won't allow them to try blending (At least as a last resort)?

Pearlescent paints are a pain in the ass, and very, very, VERY difficult to match if you need to respray just one or two panels. (Have had to repaint a pearlescent green Crosswind in the past)
