can anyone here comment on the land rovers with 19L diesel engines being sold in subic? can land rover fans say something about the engine, parts availability, performance and reliability of this vehicle?

    Which Land Rover is this?

Most of the ones I've seen from the auction are Land Rover Discoveries with V8 engines.

There is a thread in 4x4ph where rob listed all the LR parts and service providers in Metro Manila including third party providers. Amazingly, two shops are within my immediate vicinity. hehehe.

However, I'd still prefer an original LHD Rover. Medyo balbon/hilaw yung mga nakita kong Subic conversions.

Roverparts Visayas still has their local '97 Discovery A/T for sale. Asking is around Php800k.

How much is your budget sir? There are two orig-LHD Disco 1's along Greenhills. They were supposedly ex-British Embassy. One is a blue diesel (not sure if 300TDi) and one is a white 3.9V8. Both 7 seaters with dual air but not dual sunroof. The diesel was a manual with OEM steel wheels. Not sure about the gas but it wore OEM alloy wheels.

Diesel is asking for Php850k, gas is Php750k. Pwede pa tawaran sabi ng bantay.

Yes, there are parts available (mostly dito sa Metro Manila) but will cost $$$ to do properly. If you just want a running unit, pwede din naman iyon but the vehicle is compromised. Maintenance cost is average. Kapag may malaking repairs lang nagiging magastos.

Pero iba talaga ang dating ng Land Rover. Hayop sa pogi. Lalo na yung mga Range Rover.

EDIT: Try visiting www.eastcoastrover.com . They have detailed Disco 1 Defender restorations. Also try www.discoweb.org . They have a good Disco forum and lots of links and tech tips.

It really depends on who is selling. There are conversion kits available that can be ordered for almost any LR model including the 19L diesels. It is quite expensive, lalo na if you want an uncut dash.

    Mga Sirs,

Just a thought.. how come LR discos in the Philippines are so expensive? I'm here in Kuwait,i recently acquired a Land Rover freelander 2003 SE and luckily i haggled the price to the lowest which is 2000 dinars or 320K pesos.

Rover parts are somewhat expensive nga lang, pero ang kagandahan dito sa q8 eh me mga scrap yards ng mga sasakyan wherein mas mura ang parts.

97 disco for 700-800K? and some were LHD conversions?

unto which country are they getting used rovers? sana dito na lang sila sa mideast magimport kasi Disco's 2000 model below ranges from 100-200K only but of course exclusive pa sa taxes. 2000 up max of 500K.

But will it really double up when custom duties and taxes will be paid in PI? kaya dami yumayaman sa customs eh...hehehehe.

Compared to the Mid East, mataas talaga resale value ng sasakyan dito sa Pilipinas. The LR Disco prices aren't even considered 'high'. A similar age Land Cruiser 80 is still pushing Php1M up to now.

Converted LR's are somewhat cheaper. I've not seen a converted unit hit Php700k. Php700-800k is for original LHD units especially the most desirable 'local' ones.

Some used Rovers here were sold by the Local LR dealer (then PGA cars, now LR's are sold by the Jaguar group). Some units were also imported brand new via the gray market or via tax-free means (e.g. embassy use).

The Market for LR here in the Philippines is small as most buyers don't really appreciate or care what Land Rover is all about. The products seem to be too specialized for local tastes which only recognize Honda and Toyota as viable brands.

sorry OT, taxes and duties din kaya mahal ang saging at mangga diyan na galing pinas di ba joke lang po, peace tayo. taxes talaga ang nagkaka jack up ng prices, ke imported o local pa yan. Kahit saan mo pa iimport yan, mahal pa din lalabas ang presyo dahil sa taxes and duties. Pero sa ibang countries na may sariling car industry like Malaysia, mas matindi pa taxes and duties which are imposed on imported vehicles.

Last week may naka-ads na green diesel for Php650,000. Kaso naiwan ko yung diyaryo sa Caloocan. Baka makuha ko if I go there this afternoon. If I'm not mistaken, sa D.Tuazon naka-display ang unit na ito, and hindi naman mukhang converted.

Yung sa Greenhills, nakita ko siya while I was driving along Ortigas towards St. Lukes (E.Rod).

Dual sunroof, dual a/c, 7 seats, A/T, 300TDi engine, etc. May mga missing parts lang like jack and tools, alarm remote. Otherwise, intact vehicle.

    huh? conversion kits?

Also what the h*** is a 19L diesel?

IMHO Discovery RHD's are good for parts. engine, doors, differentials, etc...dont bother coverting to LHD unless someone gives it to you for free.

The green Rover I mentioned in my previous post is also a converted unit. I got a chance to talk to the seller before Holy week.

mamamatay ka sa cost ng parts/repair for old LRs, and those are reputed to be rather unreliable, if im not mistaken. make sure you're loaded.
