First Kia Midsize SUV Will Make World Debut at Detroit Auto Show

IRVINE, Calif., November 6, 2007 – Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced it will give its new midsize SUV the moniker of “Borrego” when it debuts in January at the Detroit Auto Show. The Kia Borrego will be manufactured in Korea and go on sale in North America in late spring or early summer of 2008 as a 2009 model.

Built with body-on-frame construction incorporating the latest in NVH engineering philosophy, Borrego will be Kia’s newest addition to its well-rounded full-line of vehicles that continually provide value, safety and a steadfast 10-year/100,000-mile warranty to consumers. Borrego will be available with either a V6 engine or the company’s first V8 offering, which will also boast Kia’s largest towing capacity to date.

Mukhang ayos din ah. Clean and design. Nawala yong mga malalaking dial knobs sa aircon. Kasing laki cguro ito ng Santa Fe. Ayos! marami ang option kahit Hyundai ang may-ari ng KIA. Sa market mukhang magkalaban pero pag naka penetrate sa sales, ang mga competitors ang kawawa. Divide and rule.

If the photos are what they will be in the final, may chassis pala. Kala ko monocoque na ang design na parang SF. At kaiiba ang suspension, parang air suspension ang sa likoran hehehe. Yong picture naman ng engine halata na diesel CRDI dahil kitang kita mo ang high pressure rail at malaki. Cguro nasa 2.5 up ang displacement nito.

Darating din yan, 2009 nga lang. Mahina kasi ang marketing arm ng KIA sa Pinas -Columbian Motors, at subuk na track record nila. Hindi sila gaanong aggresive compared to other car manufacturers.

Pero mas nauna yung design theme ng sa Kia. Nauna lang naging production yung sa Subaru (a hasty rehash to help pick up the sales pace).

The Kia's styling is derived from earlier concept vehicles designed during the Tribeca's 'Alfa-Romeo grille' days.

Grabe, ang ganda. Integrated na mobile phone and auxiliary inputs sa stock stereo (inputs are neatly placed beside the shifter, may volume control pa yata).

Pero I was never a big fan of wood trims (although beech na yata ang color, medyo Ikea na ang dating ).

Babalik uli si Andre Agassi hehehe...this time Borrego naka park sa helipad ng Burj-Al-Arab hotel(the only 7star in the world) -sino ba yong kalaban nya doon nung exhibition match nila, Federer ?-sa Dubai at papaliparin patungong sand dune hills for a bashing.

The front view looks nice pati pag nakasideview. Ala pa yata picture ang rear ng Borrego. Mukha nga air suspension ang rear nito.

Kung may leather seats at naka 6-speed CRDI as standard talagang ayos. Maganda na power pa. Malamang ito ang susunod na patok sa mga 7seater SUV's. Tingnan na lang natin kung ano pa mga ibang pang surprise ng KIA sa market dahil sila nagsabi na KIA-The Power to Surprise!
