when you say surplus does it mean na ex-JDM-converted Sportage or surplus from korea orig LHD? if so, local sportage is around 200-220K...go for the local 2nd hand na lang that's 1st. owned...happy hunting

The gas engine is also a 2.0, orig-LHD, used in Korea.

galing korea ang mga sportage dito sa cebu...

kaso hirap ang parts outside cebu.

    Okey ang gas consumption..

the grand sportage is a best buy din

If you will be using it in Manila, parts are not that hard to acquire.

My uncle just sold his Sportage. Growing family kasi, needed something with a third seat. But he was satisfied with his unit.

There was an incident of improperly toruqued lugnuts, his rear wheel broke off on the NLEX. With a little ingenuity, he managed to reach San Fernando Pampanga. He just left the unit with the local Kia dealer there while he went about his business. The vehicle was repaired within reasonable time and cost.

    Grand Sportage:
    -Usually turbo diesel engine
    -Updated dashboard
    -Longer body
    -Internal spare tire carrier
    -Body graphics
-Fender flares and body cladding (not sure on this one)

the gas engine on the sportage is a retuned FS-E engine (same engine as the Mazda 626 and the Ford Lynx RS). "retuned" because it puts out 140+ hp.

    thanks for the reply guys,

how about the fuel consumption? the seller told me na umaabot daw to 13km/L sa city drive. parang ang hirap paniwalaan.

for the non-grand sportage, pwede kaya dagdagan ng seats sa likuran, same with the seats of tamarraw fx?

that's pretty hard to believe. the gas version will probably do 6-7km/L city and 12km/L highway. don't know about the diesel.

we have 5 units sportage surplus. City driving gets 7-8km/liter. Highway maybe 10-11km/liter. It uses a B2 2.2 liter diesel engine like the mazda b2200 pick ups. Strong tendency to overheat if regularly going up hilly areas. Solution is to change the radiator. Its not big enough for tropical temperatures. Do not allow it to overheat, the cylinder head has great probability to crack and will need to be replaced. Very hard to look for a replacement. We have two units who we had to weld the head because we couldn't find a good replacement. The replacement surplus parts we got upon crack test, were already cracked. Welding is not a good option because the head part is very delicate and welding it doesn't ensure it won't crack again in the long run. But we did have it welded, kasi nga walang replacement head.

2nd row is very tight leg room, and tight for 5 big adults. Grand sportage is still a 5 seater but longer rear, which means bigger cargo space. 2nd row tight leg room is still the same. You can't slide back the rear seat, its fixed.

Parts are generally available, and not that expensive. But watch out for the cylinder head.

If you will use the unit in vismin, you can get a vismin unit. If you want to bring a vismin unit to manila, double check the papers. You will need complete papers (not just the lto or/cr) as TMG cops are salivating over surplus sportage from cebu, stopping them and then extorting money on the wild suspicion that the unit didn't pay proper taxes and is smuggled. But first, they may say they are impounding it for suspected carnap and will need stencil verification. Once you verify it, they will threaten you that you didn't pay the taxes. That's why the unit we sent to Manila, binalik na lang namin sa visayas after we paid the tmg to release the car.

true! True!, though I notice some "intercooler turbo" sportage doesn't have intercoolers installed, despite it has a air scoop up front...

probably someone is taking them out before selling?

Overheating, that's the most complain I hear...

4X4 and a diesel 2.2 Acceleration sounds like a 4d56-TDic Pajero. the turbo whistle is even much louder compared to most diesel turbo vehicles suprisingly...

plausible maybe 10-12 km/l city... if you drive it Vis-Min, considering traffic level and driving habbits. and perhaps provincial area has less carbon pollution?

I own a korea surplus sportage diesel. Bought it 3 years ago, had the same trouble on overheating, real headache. However, I learned the Magma engine is the same as the Mazda R-2 (2200) or the R-series. Three months later, I chose na palitan ko na lang ng japan-surplus Mazda RF Turbo diesel yung engine, nawala issue ko on engine overheat and reliability. BTW, straight swap lang yung engine, used the original transmission (4x4 kasi).

Having resolved the engine problems, Pros of this vehicle is maganda ride and easy to maintain because of cheap parts (replaced the turn signal cluster for only P1200, casa). Surprising to me, I don't know if other owners have the same experience but the aircon (Doowon brand) is very cold kahit summer heat. Also, madali sya i-lift if you want bigger tires.

Cons - still resolving electrical short circuits. Best siguro is to have it rewired which is my next project.

    Hope my comments help.
