Well, guess what, the PETA (People for the Ethnical Treatment of Animals) awarded this commercial the GOODY award for using CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) hamsters instead of real ones. That was great! Using computer generated animals is way moral than people using real animals for entertainment. Sounds reasonable right?

Kia Motors America was recently honored by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) with a GOODY award for their new ad for the Soul compact car.

Kia Motors America’s new ad, “A new way to roll,” has been recognized by PETA for its computer-imagery portraying hip hamsters instead of exploiting them or risking harm.

The creators of the ad, El Segundo-based David & Goliath agency, will receive a framed certificate and will be featured on PETA’s website.

The ad uses alternatives to the use of live animals, sparing real animals from experiencing confusion, fear, and risk of injury that comes with being on a film set.

According to PETA, many animals used in the entertainment industry are subjected to harsh environments including abusive handling such as electric shocks that force them to perform tricks. Methods like these cause confusion and harm to animals.

"Animals used as 'actors' are invariably scared and confused and deprived of everything that's normal, natural, and important to them," says Tracy Reiman, PETA executive vice president. "Kia's animatronic hamster ad is a winner."

Kia has shown that they recognize the importance of animal safety and that consumers are increasingly concerned about what happens to animals off screen.

PETA also gives out BADDY Awards to companies that disrespect animals or put them at risk in ads to increase their sales. The most recent recipient of a BADDY was Unilever for an AXE shampoo ad that features a terrified pig.
