2010 Kia Sorento XM teaser image
Kia Motors has released the first official image of it’s next generation Sorento crossover, codenamed XM, today. In addition to that, the company has also revealed some details on it’s second generation Sorento crossover.
The 2010 Kia Sorento will build on the success of the current model by offering a fresh new exterior look, the whole new interior design and an array of fuel-efficient technologies, including a brand-new 2.2L diesel engine (R-engine) developed in conjunction with Hyundai Motor Company.
    New engines
The all-new 2.2L R-engine unit brings in the latest diesel engine technology and consecutively, the the world class performance, class-leading fuel economy numbers and achieves the EURO-5 compliancy. It features a third generation common rail system with piezo-electric injectors to deliver fuel at 1800-bar and an electronic variable geometry turbocharger and is coupled with a diesel particulate filter.
The 2.2L R-engine packs impressive 200 horsepower and 435Nm of torue and has an estimated fuel economy of 14,1L/km or 33MPG (7l/100km)! That makes the new Sorento even more fuel-efficient than i’s smaller sibling, the Sportage compact SUV!
Power will also come from a variety of other diesel and gasoline engines, including the 2.4L four-cylinder (Theta II) engine and the 3.8L six-cylinder (Lambda) engine that produces 270+ horsepower. Kia also plans to introduce the new Sorento with a 2.7L LPI (Liquefied Petroleum Injection) engine on Korean market.
    Unibody platform
New generation Sorento will feature a six-speed automatic transmission, also developed together with Hyundai. The same fuel-saving six-speed tranny will be applied to majority of future Kia vehicles to come in the near future.
Another major technical change that comes together with the new tranny and engine will be the unibody architecture, which will replace the existing body-on-frame platform, meaning the ride and handling will be improved dramatically.
The 2010 Kia Sorento is set to go on sale in Korea shortly after it makes an official Korean unveiling, scheduled for the upcoming Seoul Motor Show in April, while it’s US sales is expected to commence by the end of this year.

SIR XANDER1925, i tried to go to your dealership, kaso wala na daw silang stock ng sorento. Am so in love with it, despite Gen.

Let me give you an Honest Review of the Sorento

When me and my wife was looking for an SUV 5 lang pinagpilian namin

    Grand Vitara
    Mitsubishi Montero
    Hyundai Tucson 2010
    Sorento
    Sportage

We were able to test drive only the Tucson and Sorento so i cant compare it with Vitara or Montero

Sorento is rated 174*6,000(Max Power PS*RPM).

To be honest mas malakas ang torque nang Tucson, meaning i guess pag nag drag race ang dalawa panalo ang Tucson but you have to consider the weight, mas mabigat at mas malaki ang Sorento kesa sa Tucson as this is already a mid size CUV/SUV.

    Responsive?
    Yes it is..

    Nahataw?
    Not yet..

    Ride?
This vehicle is very fun to drive. Sobrang relax ka on driving this big baby. IMHO mas maganda ang ride nya sa Tucson base on my experience in riding and driving a test drive Tucson unit for an hour. Very comfortable as a driver and as a passenger ang Sorento including if you are sitting sa 3rd row. I have spend a lot of times na nakahiga, nakadapa, naka upo at iba pang position sa 2nd row at 3rd row while my wife is driving just to experience the ride comfort.

Ito na siguro ang pinakatahimik na sasakyan na na try ko, i can barely hear the outside while driving. nung 1st time ko nag testing nang busina akala namin ni misis napakahina pero nung nag bukas ako nang bintana ang lakas pala sobra. You can barely feel/hear the engine when starting. Nag bubukas pa nga ako bintana pag nag start para malaman ko na nag start ha ha ha unless sobrang tahimik sa lugar mo like 2-3 am ka nag start he he. Maganda talaga ang soundproofing nang Sorento.

    AC
Malakas sya as in.. ang bilis nya palamigin ang cabin even kahit na nabilad sa araw ang sasakyan mo(walang bubong ang parking ko and i usually go out at 12-2 nang tanghali for errands.) we all know kung gaano kainit ang panahon ngayon. I love the dual AC function and the separate AC control for the rear which can be turned on or off at the back at sa front.

Usual setting nang AC ko is 24 and 2 bars for the fan(1 being the lowest settings) Also love the Outside Temp reading sa AC(sorry wala kasing ganito kotse ko kaya natuwa ako sa feature na to ha ha ha)

    Headlights
Ito lang masasabi ko... "Ang lakas nang head lights nito"

    Horn
Maganda at malakas ang busina, IMO no need na palitan..

    Sound System
I'm not a fan of built in Soundsystem but it's not bad, very basic nga lang settings like bass, treble, mids. Bass has Low, Mid at High settings.

    Speakers
Eto lang ang medyo disappointed ako, the speakers sounds really good at mid to a little high level in fact the sound is very relaxing sa ears pero dont expect that you could play music with high bass at high volume kasi medyo nababasag na sya pag sobrang lakas nang bass at volume, meaning di ka pwedeng magpatugtog nang mga hiphop songs na bukas lahat nang bintana, nakalabas ang kamay mo na may hawak na yosi at iikot ka nang iikots dito sa ortigas tuwing gabi kasi mapapahiya ka sa tunog(no offense kung may tinamaan).

Pero kung di ka naman bingi mag patugtog maganda naman tunog nya..so no major issue for me though yung sa kotse ko eh at highest volume and highest bass settings di nababasag.. stock speakers yun ha...But speakers can be upgraded naman eh so this is very very minor

    Interior
Ang dami ding cup holders he he he. Ang laki nang center box nya kaya nakakatuwang maglagay nang CD(may lalagyan sya nang CD sa loob) at kung ano ano pa..

    Exterior
Another reason why na inlove kami. Macho look...some people here are saying na pangit but again hindi lahat nang maganda para sayo eh maganda sa iba he he he.... Kanya kanyang opinion lang yan

    Brakes
Ang lakas nya as in...hirap lang mag adjust coming from a handbreak vehicle to a footbreak..

    Spare Tire
Walang takip di tulad nang Montero

    FC
    Mileage ko 500+km pa lang
Di ko pa na try mag full tank to compute for FC anyway lumalabas sa console ko pag city driving Marikina - Ortigas, Ortigas - Marikina everyday 10-11l/100km ave speed of 40-60-80 depending on traffic. Highway Marikina-C5-SLEX-Batangas 7-8l/100km Speed of 100-130km/hr on SLEX. Di ko hinahataw since break in period pa lang so light lang apak ko sa gas

    Price
Mahal sya if you buy in cash, but kung installment mas mura sya sa Sta Fe at sa Montero 4x2 AT. If you don't believe me i'll show you the computations given to me by Hyundai(Marikina, Manila Bay, Pasig) at Mitsubishi(Marikina, C5 Pasig at Lipa Batangas) and i'll show you my contract with Kia

Anyway masyado nang mahaba to baka sabihin nyo nag bebenta ako nang Sorento ha ha ha...Masaya lang talaga ako sa baby ko and sobrang satisfied with regards to look, performance wise and comfort.. fuel economy I still need to compute the actual FC.

Hope this helps to those people na nag PM sa akin about Soren...Maganda ang Tucson, Montero, Vitara pero para sa akin mas maganda ang Sorento overall.. but again this is just me

Just want to warn you guys. Earlier in this thread I was complaining on how bad a dealer Kia CUBAO is, the tip of the iceberg was the release of my plates 3 months after I bought the vehicle. You wanna know whats worse? Wala pang kasamang registration stickers, which again I have to agonizingly follow-up.

Now moving to another topic: As you all know, i have a 3 month plus old Sorento GAS seven-seater, as with my previous post I was complaining that the dealer along with other complains (Scratched grill, etc) the main point is I wasnt informed that the 7 seater diesel variant was available when I was made to believe that only the gas was available, only to be had with a vehicle which was used (mileage was too high), when it was released, etc.

Anyway, my friend bought a crdi almost 2 weeks after I bought the gas version for 100,000 more. Let me compare notes between me and my friend, 7 seater gas and 7 seater diesel.

After 3 months, we noticed that although the gas was more expensive to fuel. The mileage was noticeably higher in the gas version, meaning the diesel although possessing a higher torque and higher HP, actually consumes more fuel than the gas version. (Is it because of the quality of Diesel fuels in the philippines?)

After 3 months, and with almost similar mileage, I noticed that the vibration and engine noise of the gas is definitely much quieter than the diesel. Where according to my friend, when compared during the first few weeks of our Sorentos, was both eerily silent and had almost no vibration in the diesel variant. Now after more than 3 months, the diesel variant has shown more vibration and slight noise than the gas variant.

Torque and HP though are to the advantage of the diesel variant. But Ive been maintaining my Gas with V-Power fuel, and am satisfied with the smoothness of the ride. All Factory released Sorento is filled by mineral oil and not fully synthetic motor oil. I am planning to change mine very soon with Royal Purple Oil to maintain its smoothness and good acceleration vis-a-vis with the relatively high Shell octane fuel i am using. Cant say the same with the low quality diesel here though, which according to my friend who noticed his Crdi Sorento is not too responsive sometimes (?) whatever that means.

Still not too happy over-all with my Sorento purchase, though.

Can you share your experiences too with regards to your Sorento diesels and gas?

This is just my 2 cent take. Thanks.

the rule i believe is like this

use semi-synthetic oil for gasoline cars. use regular diesel oil for diesel cars.
main reason for having synthetic for gasoline, para tumagal ng 6 months for next pms.
now why not use synthetic oil for crdi, wala din naman notable difference, since na-coconsume ang synthetic diesel oil sa crdi. nagtatapon lang ng pera

at least that's what we do with our cars. now regarding the oil brands, kahit ano yan pare-pareho. let the casa do it, they know best.

crdi pag tumagal na naging tunog old diesel tunog din so don't worry about it.

regarding the crdi sorento not responsive, it's in the diesel, madumi yan napa-gasan nyan. ang pinaka the best talaga fuel stations ay yun mga nasa city like ortigas, makati, fort or even dun malapit sa mga exclusive subd., kasi sigurado they check the quality of their diesels. wag na wag pag-gas lalung-lalo na sa mga lugar na frequent ng PUVs may halo yan

the vibration is also caused by the dirty diesel kasi pag hirap ang crdi engine, may slight vibration talaga. ma-feel yan pag idle sa traffic while you're holding the steering,

pero kung sobrang lakas, iba na yan. better have it checked sa casa, may warranty pa naman.

MY friend said yung vibration and noise hindi naman malakas, but his 3 mos old sorento crdi compared to my 3 mos old gas is quiet and no vibration sa unang month but after this 3 mos old observation test, the gas version is still quiet, but the 3 mos old crdi version is noticeably nag-vibrate and hindi na ganon ka whisper quiet as the first month compared to the gas version (mine) with relatively same mileage.

I really think the diesel fuel plays a very small part. Its more on the moving parts of the engine.

So what's your ave. fuel consumption on your 7seater Gas Sorrento and your friend CRDI Sorrento?

Also pls. explain why your not that too happy overall with your Sorrento?..was it due to the Kia Dealership or with the vehicle itself?
