Well you don't have to get the Rubicon to get the 6 cylinder engine. The Rubicon just gives you front and rear locking rear differential using a Dana 44 axle for both. It's one of the few vehicles to give you front and rear lockers, the others being the Mercedes G500 and Dodge Power Wagon.

There isn't anything wrong with the 4 cylinder for regular daily driver duties. Just make sure you give it a good inspection as you would any other vehicle you buy. Is the front suspension a leaf spring or coil spring? The 4 cylinder should be 2.5L OHV with 120hp if it's a 2000 model with coil spring front suspension. 1997-2006 models were called the TJ and 1987 to 1995/6 models were called the YJ, anything prior was called the CJ with the last being the CJ7. BTW the YJ had rectangular lights and the TJ had round lights. The front axle is a Dana 30 and the rear axle is a Dana 35 for the 4 cylinder.

February 11th, 2007 07:32 PM #36The Rubicon D44 is different. What many people are complaining about is they feel that the outer axles, steering u-joints and bearings are not Dana 44. Well they are, since 1996 Jeep upgraded the Dana 30 outers to the equivalent to Dana 44's. So at this point (up to 06) both the D30 and D44 front axles used by Jeep are the same design as far as the outer portions go.
You do have a stronger differential with the D44.
No, the Dana 44 is not the same as what Ford may use or the same as what Jeep may have used on the old Wagoneers, but it is still a Dana 44. Rubi D44s use much stronger axle joints than Spicer 297X.
Plus, Rubicon D44 is a beefed-up D44 with thicker ring gears.
The 2007 JK Rubicon D44 is even further improved. Longer shafts. 32 splines vs. 30 at the diff. Larger pinion bearings / pinion shaft. All good upgrades - but will take some time for the new aftermarket parts to catch up.

February 13th, 2007 12:10 AM #37According to industry sources, the Rubicon may be available in the Philippine market by June. Indicative pricing for the 4-door JK will be around P2.6M. A little less for the 2-door. This makes it a little cheaper than the 2007 Defender but more expensive than the Patrol.
HOWEVER, its biggest stumbling block is its lack of Filipino fans willing to pay such price for one of the world's best off-road machines. When I posted about the Rubicon on 2 other forums, I didn't hear anyone say, "I'm buying one..."
Though I handle a different brand, I still can't help but appreciate the "no compromise" nature of the 2-door Rubicon. I don't really like the 4-door though since it compromises break-over angle and begs to be lifted.

AFAIK the after market has already caught up for upgrades to the JK Jeep. Somewhat common knowledge here that Jeep allows the aftermarket to get the new models ahead of the public in order to be able to make new aftermarket products. I do agree that the Jeep Dana 44 is different from previous versions. Nissan even has their own version of the Dana 44 for the Xterra Off Road model and Frontier Nismo model and no parts from it can be used with the current Jeep Dana 44.

It's too bad the people in the Philippines can't appreciate the Jeep since they see a glorified owner type vehicle. I told my wife I wanted to get one as my weekend wheeling rig and she asked why I wanted to get a vehicle that looked like an owner jeep. However, I would like to get the 4 door since it has more room than any other suv in it's market(Xterra, FJ, H3) and raise it another 6" with a lift and put 35" tires.
I saw in your AT thread that you work for Land Rover and drive a Patrol. Those are 2 vehicles I wouldn't mind having it's just to bad that Nissan gave us the Armada instead of the Patrol. The Land Rover I would like to have is the Defender 90 but they are still priced very high for their age here in the US. I have a co-worker with the Defender 110 and it looks like you can drive it through a wall.

February 13th, 2007 12:54 AM #40Yup... You're right and the SEMA show becomes the venue to display upcoming products.
The version of the Dana 44 in the Titan has become a bit problematic. In the Jeep, Xterra and Frontier, it lasts but I've read it blows up on modified Titans. Four Wheeler magazine blew up their long-term Titan diff with just 35" tires. Oh well...
